“Apple will ship three new iPad Pro models around Spring 2017, including 7.9-inch, 9.7-inch, and 10.1-inch models, according to Japanese blog Mac Otakara,” Joe Rossignol reports for MacRumors.
“The smaller 7.9-inch model, which will succeed the iPad mini 4, will likewise include a Smart Connector, True Tone display, four speakers, and a 12-megapixel rear-facing iSight camera with True Tone flash, as Apple works to standardize features across its tablet lineup, according to the report,” Rossignol reports. “All three new iPad Pro models will reportedly gain quad microphones, compared to the current dual setup, and retain 3.5mm headphone jacks.”
“It has been speculated the iPad mini could be nearing the end of its line due to Apple’s focus on its larger tablet lineup, and the belief that recent 5.5-inch iPhone ‘Plus’ models have helped lessen demand for Apple’s smallest tablet, but today’s report suggests otherwise,” Rossignol reports. “Mac Otakara does not have a perfect track record with Apple rumors, but its sources have proven accurate on multiple occasions in the past.”

The iPad Mini is my favorite iPad. Bigger than a phablet, but portable enough to go with me everywhere, no bag or special jacket required. An iPad Mini Pro is the one I want most of all — think of how it becomes a sketchbook or notepad with an Apple Pencil! Fab!!
There should be no such thing as an iPad Air or Pro. These marketing names are completely meaningless. Apple needs to get back to the simplicity it used to offer. Three sizes: iPad Mini, iPad, and iPad Plus. That’s it. All of them should be kept fresh with at least a 24 month update cycle. On the back, prominently label the year of release for each iteration instead of playing games with numbers and “S” and “SE” bs.
More importantly: update the Mac Pros !
I doubt it, I put my iPad on the shelf 6 months ago, I do real work on my Mac, cant see the point of an iPad anymore. I use a Macbook for mobile.

Apple needs updates for every Mac and an expansion of the Mac lineup.
There just isn’t anything iOS can to better than MacOS except perhaps kiosks and touchscreen terminals for clerks.
Having read this, I’m postponing my upgrade of my current iPad mini 3, to an iPad Pro 9.7 until we see if this rumor is true. If true and I like the config, I will get the iPad closest to the current, iPad mini in size.
