Exploding phone maker Samsung faces U.S. probe over ‘exploding washing machines’

“Samsung has confirmed it is in talks with US consumer watchdogs after a lawsuit against the firm over ‘exploding’ washing machines,” BBC News reports. “The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned of problems with some of Samsung’s top-load machines. It comes as a US law firm filed a suit against the South Korean firm, saying the fault can lead to injury or damage.”

“The problems follow Samsung’s global recall of its Note 7 smartphone over ‘exploding'” batteries,” The Beeb reports. “Both Samsung and the CPSC said that certain top-loading washing machines from March 2011 to April 2016 were affected.”

“The firm also faces a suit from a US law firm which alleges that some of its ‘top-loading washing machines explode in owners’ homes,'” leading to potential injury or damage, according to attorney Jason Lichtman. ‘Users have reported Samsung top-load washers exploding as early as the day of installation, while other owners have seen their machines explode months or even more than a year after purchase,’ the firm said in a statement,” The Beeb reports. “The faulty washing machines come right as Samsung is in the midst of a global recall of its flagship smartphone Galaxy Note 7. The company was forced to urge 2.5 million phones to be returned because of faulty batteries causing some phones to catch fire and users reporting ‘exploding devices.'”

MacDailyNews Take: We’d suggest that Samsung look into getting into the munitions business, but it looks like they already have with gusto.

Sleep tight, slavish copier. Oh wait, you incompetent, corner-cuting, schlockmeisters probably have crappy Miele-wannabe Samsung washing machines and iPhone-wannabe Samsung phones, so keep your eyes open and your hands on the fire extinguishers instead!

    1. And is that really a bad thing? What about all of the other times the U.S. bombed other countries in the recent past? Not to mention invading other countries and establishing I democratic dictators in said countries? You really need to have a good look at your countries history before you complain about how the rest of the world hates you.

      1. You keep whining about the U.S. and their annexing of the Hawaiian Islands but you never mention that King Kamahamaha tried to give the Big Island to Great Britain, who refused. Some country was going to take over the Islands, so who would you have preferred? Maybe you should study up on Hawaiis history.

  1. Why do they use the term explode for a device that has nothing to explode. Wouldn’t disintegrate during spin cycle, which is the only point that it could have any similar effect, really explains the matter best.

Explode to me suggests a situation that can take a whole house down, rather than metal shrapnel shredding drywall and damaging the laundry room.

    Just saying. All bad anyway.

    1. Well there have been quite a few Samsung washers catching fires in Oz. Seen a number of press articles, and Samsung were instructed to place ads asking people to contact them for either a check or replacement. That’s a check, not a cheque!

    1. I had the exact same thought, that Samsung should be making munitions for the military. I then changed my mind. It wouldn’t be a good idea, many of the Samsung bombs designed to explode would probably be duds.

  2. Same in Australia! Last year, “Nearly 150,000 Samsung washing machines sold around (Australia) are being recalled after some caught fire and exploded.” http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/fair-trading-issues-recall-of-samsung-top-loader-washing-machines-20150722-gihw6i.html
And a few days ago, “Since six (Samsung) washing machine models were subject to an Australia-wide safety recall in 2013 there have been 87 fires causing damage to property external to the machine.” http://www.news.com.au/national/breaking-news/samsung-continues-washing-machine-recalls/news-story/af86c76d15737a4caba439312525a9d8
