“I’ve been using my Apple Watch Series 2 for over a week,” Jonny Evans writes for Computerworld. “I thought I should share a few observations about my experience and try to explain why I think now is a good time for people who may have been curious about the product to take a look.”
“I was impressed by the speed improvements in every app, while I sometimes experienced a little lag as the app loaded for the first time; all subsequent uses of those apps were much quicker than on Apple Watch 1 on watchOS 2,” Evans writes. ” There is not doubt that watch OS 3 brings significant performance gains across every app, and I fully expect developers to build new and better apps designed to exploit these improvements.”
Evans writes, “In future it seems inevitable the Watch will grow an LTE radio and become a truly independent device, but ib the here and now I think the new model means it’s time to try the smartwatch.”

Last Thursday I received my Apple Watch 2 with black SS case and bracelet. I’ve got a few very good watches, and I do like them all, in different ways. But this one is actually fun. It’s also useful, which some people many not understand.
I’ve been responding to emails using Scribble. I thought it would be a problem as I’m left handed, but wear my watches on my left wrist. But, surprisingly, after a bit of practice, I found myself answering emails, and sending messages easily. Changing watch faces, is very useful, and enjoyable, particularly with all of the types and mods available. The apps work surprising well, and many app developers have Apple Watch apps that automatically install, if you want them to.
I’ve got SS bracelets for a couple of my watches that cost over $2,000 a piece. But the $500 black SS bracelet for the Apple Watch is definitely the most precision bracelet I’ve ever seen, much less owned. You can remove, and put links back without ant tools. It’s solid feeling and secure. The deployment catch is no thicker than the thin bracelet itself.
Quite frankly, I’m more than pleased. People here who have read my posts over the years know that I’m not easy to please either.
Apple f’d the design by not concentrating on using the best tech for the purposes of usability. One-day battery life is not good enough. Should have used different screen tech to improve that, as Pebble did. Apple’s wasting time on lame bands, which are irrelevant when you open it up to standard watch bands of the correct size. Never thought Apple’s weakest link would be product design, but the Watch is proof of this. Still love my Apple stuff, just on the sideline until the Watch is improved. Hope I have the extra cash to jump in when they ultimately make the best smartwatch. 🙂
Has anyone seen the speed and responsiveness comparison data comparing the original A-watch running watchOS 3 with the new A-watch running the same OS? Is the latter noticeably faster or not?
