MacDailyNews Take: There’s an adapter for charging while listening, too, but alas it’s not free, not even for the morbidly obtuse. As for the latter, use the Lightning to Headphone Jack Adapter that Apple gave you with your iPhone… oh, wait, you threw it out.
“So now I carry two pairs of EarPods around: one for my phone and one for my computer,” Mangalindan explains. “It’s frustrating when I blindly rummage through my backpack at work only to come up with the wrong pair of earbuds.”
MacDailyNews Take: Too dense to keep them in separate backpack pockets, much less be able to remember which one is which.
Mangalindan writes, “I also finally threw down $150 for a pair of wireless PowerBeats 2 headphones on sale for running. Do I regret the purchase? Not really. The PowerBeats 2 are incredibly comfortable to wear, and the audio quality is good enough for my day-to-day needs. It’s also liberating to run cord-free.”
MacDailyNews Take: So, you won’t spend $9 for a replacement adapter that you threw in the trash, but you will drop $150 (on sale, of course) on new headphones? You’re really bowling us over with logic, JP.

First of all, I got the power beats2 for free and they weren’t even worth that much. He spent $150 on garbage (yes, Beats are garbage), threw away the free adapter and complains to us about $9.
I’m not sure I believe any of it…. it’s probably just a creative way to come up with an article so he looks worthy of a job (to whomever hired him).
All this angst over a technology that ,if once again the industry follows Apple’s lead, will not be offered in 2 – 3 years.
What I find incredibly amusing is that the number of people that will gladly give up the 3.5mm jack to get water resistance and much improved, more capable, earpods/headsets greatly outnumber (2, 3, 4, 5:1) the cry babies.
Apple did the right thing for the overwhelming majority of iPhone users, and the crybabies (in a year’s time) will have forgotten all about their complaints.

While some people on this forum can get overly defensive regarding criticism of Apple products, I do not agree that this is such a case.
Mangalindan received the necessary adapter with his iPhone review unit, but he threw it away. In his review, he then proceeds to bitch about the problems he faces as a result of not having the adapter.
Think about that…he claims to be reviewing the iPhone 7, but “on principle” refuses to replace the adapter that he lost during the unpacking process through sheer stupidity?
In this case I have no problem at all with people dissing Mangalindan.
Point is, it is something easily lost, forgotten or stolen…
All you need to do is attach it to your headphones. Done. Then just plug in like normal. Anyone can figure that out.

It wasn’t supposed to be an iPhone review. The article is titled “I went a week without a headphone jack, and it was not good” and that is exactly what it was about. His point is valid and lots of people will be annoyed like he was. Then they will get over like he admitted he probably will with time.
If it wasn’t supposed to be a review, then why did he receive an iPhone 7 review unit?
Take a look at the first sentence.
If it was a review unit, why didn’t he contact Apple and ask for another adaptor? I rather imagine that Apple would readily replace it. They supplied the iPhone itself free, didn’t they? Why balk at $9? They wouldn’t. I smell a rat.

This specific complaint is that the Macbook Pro only has a headphone jack, with no Lightning port for the new Lightning earbuds to plug into. So, the 3.5mm-to-Lightning jack would’ve done nothing to help even if he hadn’t thrown it out, he would need a an adapter to plug the Lightning Earpods into, to then connect to the MBP’s 3.5mm headphone port.
But he laments that he has to carry two sets of EarPods. Thus he has both the Lightning and Headphone Jack style.
So, the 3.5mm-to-Lighting jack he tossed would have done just fine in allowing him to carry one set of EarPods (the 3.5mm ones he has) and allowed him to use them with the phone and the MBP.

Large numbers of people use the included earbuds. They’re sorted because it comes with earbuds. People who use bluetooth devices are sorted because it still has bluetooth. People who use wired headphones are sorted because they get an adapter.
The only people who might have an issue are people who have multiple sets of headphones and who don’t want to buy multiple adapters (fair enough, only $9, but it’s all more stuff) AND who are incapable of swapping around the included one.
How many people is this actually going to be a problem for in the long run? Really, the change to lightning was a much bigger issue and who even gives a shit about that now?

I bought the beats solo3’s with Apple’s amazing W1 chip – I don’t have to worry about charing and listening at the same time because the beats last 40 hours – i’m on day two and still have 75% left.

Most people do care about the latter. The new taptic engine enables the new Home Touch ID component so that the iPhone could be water resistant.
