Checking iPhone 7/Plus availability at Apple locations worldwide

“While the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus launched last week, the usual trend of demand outstripping supply has resulted in limited availability of the smartphones around the world,” Joe Rossignol reports for MacRumors.

“Fortunately, prospective buyers can easily check stock at their local Apple Stores using the website iStockNow,” Rossignol reports. “iStockNow uses Google Maps to visualize the real-time status of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus availability at Apple Stores in the U.S., Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U.K., likely based on Apple’s reservation system backend.”

“The website allows users to filter their search by iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, storage capacity, color, location, and U.S. carrier,” Rossignol reports. “Shoppers can still use Apple’s front-end reservation system, but iStockNow provides a more convenient way to view in-store stock at a glance.”

  1. I got excited when I saw this, and then was quickly disappointed when I saw that the 7 Plus, any black, not 32GB, not CDMA are nowhere to be found. I already cancelled my November Jet Black for an October matte black, and am still sorely disappointed it is like this now. I remember the days when I could stroll into a store after getting out of work and just buy the new iPhone back in the <= 4s days, and I was even able to just wait in line 8 hours at AT&T to get both the 5 and 5s. But ever since the Plus became a thing, nobody has it on opening day so it's never worth waiting in line just for disappointment, and it's always a month later or worse to wait in the mail even when you preorder at midnight. Ridiculous.

This is a supply chain management and forecasting PROBLEM. Several years of the same poor behavior (even worsening) is no longer "oh wow we are shocked to see it is well beyond our wildest expectations", but instead "we are too cheap to invest in suppliers to the point they would be able to sufficiently handle initial supply demands for a major launch, so instead will operate on the minimal amount of manufacturing equipment and slowly roll out availability the cheapest way possible at the expense of customer satisfaction and growth".

You're not waiting for an iPhone because it's doing better than expected. You're waiting for an iPhone because Apple refuses to meet the level of demand that should be obvious to them.

      1. The problem with waiting until November is that you’re already 17% of the way to the next iPhone. The Mac Buyer’s Guide should already be a neutral by then, recommending waiting unless you have no iPhone.
