“There’s a bit of a brouhaha happening right now over iPhone 7’s Home button. Specifically, that it requires skin contact to activate, thus hampering it’s ability to work in winter, maybe even if you’re wearing capacitive gloves,” Rene Ritchie reports for iMore.
“I don’t typically wear gloves when I use my iPhone in winter, and I’ve lived through nine -30c winters as an iPhone user, but I have a bunch of capacitive gloves — thanks, family gifts! — and they all worked fine,” Ritchie reports. “Of course, there’s also a power button on the side you can use to turn your iPhone 7 on or off, if you just want to check out lock screen info, or better still, iOS 10 Raise to Wake.”
Ritchie reports, “Touch ID won’t work with capacitive gloves, because they cover your fingerprint, but you can still press to bring up Passcode, then tap it in.”

I’m sure it isn’t as hugh a “flaw” as some are making it out to be. I swear, people are constantly writing articles to find some sort of fault with Apple products for every little thing. They also have to use these diabolical clickbait headlines to get a read. I’d think most consumers would be happy to trade off to the Taptic button in order to have a water-resistant iPhone. I guess I thought wrong.

Agreed. But in the mean time, there are Samsung phones actually blowing up and injuring people. And the media is almost completely silent about it.

I don’t wear gloves. But Apple engineers should have tested the 7 wearing gloves. After all, they are among the smartest engineers in the world.
People have said that one way around this is turning on AssistiveTouch which really helps. I hope Apple “fixes” this, and the reported hisses under heavy CPU load, soon.

As has been the trend when a new iphone comes out, everyone tries to make up an issue so they can say they were the “first” to point out some supposed flaw, but they never go back and apologize once it’s revealed that the issue was fake to begin with…
