Florida man sues beleaguered Samsung after phone explodes in pocket

“A-28-year-old man whose Galaxy Note7 exploded in his pocket while at work in Palm Beach Gardens this month has filed a lawsuit against Samsung, according to his lawyer,” Hannah Winston reports for The Palm Beach Post.

“Keith Pierro, a partner with Gold and Gold Law based in Boca Raton and Miami, said his client, Jonathan Strobel, suffered severe and “deep second-degree burns” on his right thigh and thumb when the phone exploded,” Winston reports. “The lawsuit — which Pierro thinks is one of the first in the country — requests $15,000 in compensatory damages and was filed Friday morning.”

“On Sept. 9, Strobel was working at Costco at 3250 Northlake Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens when the phone he placed in his right pocket exploded, according to the complaint,” Winston reports. “Pierro said when Strobel realized what was happening, he attempted to remove the phone from his pocket and burned his thumb in the process. Soon after, he was able to take his pants off and be treated. Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue previously told The Palm Beach Post the phone appeared to have melted inside his pants.”

“Pierro said when Strobel first told him about the incident, he thought the injuries wouldn’t be terrible,” Winston reports. “‘This can’t be as bad as it sounds … Then I saw the injury,” he said. “He’s in the healing process, but it’s going to be a long road.’ Messages left with Strobel were not returned Saturday. On his Facebook page, Strobel’s profile picture is an Apple logo with the text: ‘The new iPhone7: It doesn’t explode.'”

MacDailyNews Take: It’s sad that it takes and explosive fire and deep burns to the flesh for some to realize that if it’s not an iPhone, it’s an incendiary device for your pocket cobbled together by a South Korean dishwasher maker.

      1. No, the Supreme Court decided the 2000 presidential election. I know the lie about Florida voters deciding the 2000 election gets retold a lot, but if you just remember or look up the event, the Supreme Count ruled to stop the voter count and awarded all of Florida’s votes to Bush. Gore, who had the every right and responsibility to the citizens to demand Florida’s votes be counted, inexplicably went along with the Supreme Court ruling and quit the race.

The 2000 election was not an episode of Florida deciding a Presidential election. That was the mutual curruption of Democrats and Replicans completely subverting democracy by shutting done the process of counting votes in the decisive swing state. That recent and poignant event should not be so easily forgotten or rewritten, unless we want to keep letting corrupt politicians stomp our democracy.

        1. “Easier to hook than a 10 pound fish in a one-inch deep kiddie pool.”

          This person is batsh@t!

A 10 pound fish in one inch of water would be dead in mere minutes. Typical LIBTARD hyperbole.

Oh, and let’s call the animal rights police.

        1. Mikhail Moiseyevich Botvirnnik was a Russian chess champion in the late 1940s and 50s and computer scientist. An avowed communist and favorite of USSR Politburo, he was considered to have been a puppet of the far right in the USSR. He was also rumored to have been responsible for quite a few freedom advocates being sent to the gulags where they disappeared.

No doubt our Botty would claim it was the “brilliance” that led him to take on the name, but given a long history displayed on these pages, there aren’t to many people with developed intelligence and basic insight that don’t see Botty for what he is rather than what he wants others to think he is.

    1. Ahem, it’s spelled Flor-A-Duh. And that insult doesn’t apply to most Florida natives, IMHO. It’s when you get into the tourista areas that A-Duh becomes highly evident. Even then, Florida has plenty of smart and friendly people. What’s sad has been the ridiculous voting system in Florida of the past and a lot of remarkably stupid politicians…. Not that remarkably stupid politicians aren’t a plague across the nation as a whole.

    2. Hey, native Minnesotan, here. There are plenty of intelligent people in Florida, some I call my friends, and some are my family.

However, exploding phones that hurt people is a problem. That Florida man deserves every cent he gets from the lawsuit. Perhaps more.

  1. Works at Costco. Figures. One of the many deplorables in the basket.

Excuse me, I’m late for my Levodopa therapy. Huma, give me my Sinemet, Parcopa, and Duopa now!

Vote for me so I can have at least a few more months of state dinners and live like a queen until I have to abdicate due to Stage Four Parkinson’s (which I’ll say I just found out about after the election because I’m a habitual liar).

    1. Not a bad plan, Hillary. Your vice president is a capable and honourable man, and would serve the republic well. You wouldn’t actually abdicate (that’s for inbred royalty) but resign. You would make history in spectacular fashion without doing any actual work, like William Henry Harrison, ninth president of the US, who died of pneumonia a month after taking office. You’d be the first female, the first former first lady, the first to resign after her husband was impeached, the first to follow a black president of the same party.

Unfortunately, you would not be the first to win by being the lesser of two evils. That happens pretty much every time. Too bad the Whigs didn’t mount a candidate this time round.

        1. Care to wager real money on that prediction, botty? I dare you to put up $10,000 USD on your prediction. I will even spot you 5%.

botty, you pontificate daily on this forum, shoveling piles of crap and posting links to far right propaganda factories. Well, I am calling you out on your bullshit. Take the bet or forever be known on this site as a a liar, a coward, and a blowhard.

        2. Hey, anonymous asshole. botty posted the straw man challenge. I just called him on it.

I couldn’t give a crap less what you think of my worth, anonymous turd. Besides, you responded to my post, which means that you are the one who needs to get a life.

        3. “Hey, anonymous asshole.”

Guess I’m added to your list you insult regularly because you can not handle the truth.

Typical Libtard. But I do feel your pain with Trump surging in the polls without spending A DIME in most states.

Remember Jeb spending over $130 MILLION and where it got him? Lightning strikes twice. ⚡️⚡️

Your silly straw man proposal is an act of political desperation. Intellectually, your insults aside, you are not in Botty’s league.

Remember, the polls don’t reflect NEW registered and CROSSOVER voters that set a Republican primary RECORD and add in the sour voters that have not voted in years. The voter bloodbath is coming, so prepare yourself.

I thought you were going to leave MDN? WTF?

        4. I will put the money up on bond. Guaranteed payment to the winner. Will you do that?

Once again, you demonstrate your true nature. There is no doubt.

You are a Liar…Coward…Blowhard. Case closed.

        5. Why are you wasting your time with him? You know his MO. You know his method of response and you know he isn’t intellectually capable of intelligent debate. You also must know he has an encyclopedia of responses ready for when Trump loses and has to go back to stealing from other businesses and the taxpayers.

You said “Take the bet or forever be known on this site as a a liar, a coward, and a blowhard.” Where you are completely wrong is in thinking he has to take your bet. He is already known to be all those things and doesn’t need to turn down your offer to confirm it.

        6. michaele11111: It is ignorance like yours that will secure a Clinton win.

If Trump loses he goes back to being a very successful business man and you get the most corrupt politician I or anyone I know in DC (on BOTH sides) has ever seen.
Trump may not be the best man for the job, but compared to Clinton he is the freaking pope.

If you are representative of the voting American public then you deserve what you get. FYI, I’m not American, thankfully.

        7. MDN, your site is truly beginning to suck. If this site is supposed to celebrate Apple products and facilitate worthwhile discourse among Apple aficionados, then you are failing. If you want to make money from people like botty and Fwhatever and their ilk, then that is your choice. But, if you continue to support this crap, then I and others will exercise our right to make our own choices.

        8. In the last week you have attacked Botty, Derek and fwhatever — repeatedly. 😡

So, I conclude you are the one that sucks! 😈

Please permanently retreat to your liberal safe space so I don’t have to read your childish rants. Buh, bye.

        9. You are fixated on word play, not facts.

Hillary is the most corrupt person to run for POTUS. Got that?

Trump is as clean as the driven snow by comparison. He will be President for WE THE PEOPLE. Unlike I’M WITH HER only caring about the syncophantic groups that give HER MONEY.

No comparison and a clear choice.

      1. Not a bad plan, are you serious?!?

Wake up to the facts, please. Crooked Hilliary is a habitual liar in chief.

Her VP pick is cut from the same cloth if you review his previous positions.

Ridiculous to vote for identity politics! Woman after a black man, you need to grow up.

        1. lol – ‘Il Douche’ Trump is an even worse liar. Glad he finally admitted the ‘Birther’ thing was a scam.

But wtf does any of this have to do with tech?

Samsung phones are literally blowing up, no one is doing anything about it.

        2. Yes, ‘Il Douche’ Trump is a worse liar – especially if there’s a buck in it for him. He pushed that Birther crap for 5 years – all the time knowing it was a lie.

As for the Samsung exploding phones – I do hope they end up paying billions. But I don’t understand why there isn’t a massive recall and official ban on sales already. These things are a hazard. They need to be removed.

        3. Ah, no way clueless. One mistake is just that.

When it comes to lying no one can hold a candle to the Clinton’s.

Pulitzer Prize winning NYT columnist called her a “congenital liar” 30 years ago.

You really need to get a grip on reality.

  2. I ran across a video on YouTube today that I only watched part of and perused some of the comments. The guy was tearing apart a new iPhone to check its water tight properties. The comments were from typical moronic Samsung/Android zombies who were saying how the Samsungs were better but failed to mention the explosions. Of course they trashed all of the iSheep/Apple Fanboys as they so commonly do without fail. Clueless schmucks.

        1. Yes, the silly season is here trying to elect a crooked candidate and habitual liar with a proud cheating and philandering husband.

          Now that is INDEED, silly.

          Anybody except Shrillary.

And yes, to stay on tech topic — SameSung should pay HUGE DAMAGES.

  3. 1) Does this guy even have a case? If Samsung initiated its recall on 09/02, and this guy who works at CostCo had the incident 09/07, that’s plenty of time to hear about the recall, via the Internet, TV or even work.

    2) $15,000? That’s legal fees! Maybe he thinks that’s a lot because he works at CostCo, but he should ask for at least $500K to make it worth his and his lawyer’s time and effort! But again, I don’t think he even has a case.

    1. This is why Samsung will suffer long and hard for their decision to down play the problem.
What recall?? Samsung has not contacted owners,
They have not done a recall, only suggested phones be returned.
And this guy is trying to be honest and requesting actual damage not make his fortune.

      Just saying.

      1. To be fair, unlike cars, smartphones in general are not registered with the manufacturer. The steps Samsung took to initially let people know is on their website and reported on in the news. Samsung needs to push the carriers who DO have information on owners to recall the phones.

  4. I think SamSplode should be arrested for arson – many multiple felonies. It should be enough to lock ’em up for all time and then we can dust our hands off and say “And that, as they say, is that.” (Oh wait I’m writing aloud.)

      1. Apple eliminated the handgun emoji because they are a bunch of politically correct LIBTARDS.

Pixel pictures never killed a single person in history.

It’s an affront to those of us who value second amendment freedoms.

Apple is using their first amendment freedoms to deny us our gun right freedoms. Ridiculous!

        🔫🇺🇸🔫🇺🇸🔫

  5. this site is going the route of Yahoo finance discussion forums…..
and if you have been around long enough in the finance forum universe.. u will know what im talking about.

    1. When you have the most unusual presidential election in history, it is played out everywhere on BOTH sides. Record negatives, record Republican primary voters and record debate ratings only add fuel to the fire. It won’t last forever and it can be interesting at times … relax, people. 🤗🇺🇸
