“Hardware review YouTube channel JerryRigEverything has put the new iPhone 7 through an intensive durability test,” Tim Hardwick reports for MacRumors. “The latest video shows how a black matte iPhone 7 stands up to scratching, applied heat, and bending”
“In the first test, the screen stands up to a utility knife with no problems. However, when a harder level 6 mineral pick is applied it incurs damage, suggesting that coins and keys won’t scratch it, but care should be taken to protect it against other abrasive materials that can be found in pockets and purses,” Hardwick reports. “The buttons are confirmed as metal, while the antenna bands remain plastic.”
Hardwick reports, “Lastly, the bend test confirms the iPhone 7’s aluminum chassis isn’t susceptible to bending.”

MacDailyNews Take: Keep those level 6 mineral picks our of your iPhone pockets, now, ya hear?
Bonus tests: Tab Times’ iPhone 7/Plus Drop Test:
Apple Care for phones that have broken screens are now $29 per incident instead of $129 too.
That same video suggests the camera lens cover is glass, not sapphire.
(The above video begins at 2:09, where they test the camera lens.) At http://www.apple.com/iphone-7/specs/ you can read that the 7 and 7Plus both have a “sapphire crystal lens cover.”
This dude says it is not sapphire?
He says it scratches at level 6 on the hardness scale, which means it is not sapphire, which cannot be scratched below level 9. I’m no expert, but that’s what they say.
Hmm. Not to mention that the camera “crystal” cracked in the drop test, I’m starting to think something’s not right here. I’ve never seen a camera crystal crack in any other drop test videos (I’ve seen) for prior model iPhones.
Why didn’t they test is with a semi-trailer truck running over it or the all important volcano drop test. You know, everyday phone occurrences. Nobody goes around testing cars like this and puts these tests on video. We should expect that if we mistreat our possessions that they will get damaged. It seems like it should be common sense to not put your keys in your pocket with your phone or to put your phone in your back pocket and sit on it. Only Apple’s products are put to such idiotic ‘tests’ by these attention seekers.
Only Apple products are put to such idiotic tests? You haven’t spent much time on YouTube, have you?
This Motorola was dropped from 275 meters. That’s 902 feet!
BTW, they drop iPhones from that height as well.
Well good. I’ve complained about weak screens, my iPhone 5, but for my uses, the 7 definitely works! I’ll get mine a bit wet, I’ll drop it (not on purpose!), and just use it a lot in some tough situations. This iPhone will do!
