Beleaguered Samsung phone explodes in little boy’s hands, 6-year-old suffers burns

“A 6-year-old Brooklyn boy suffered burns when one of Samsung’s recalled Galaxy Note 7 smartphones exploded in his hands — and his grandmother says he’s now too scared to go near any other devices,” C.J. Sullivan, Shawn Cohen and Tom Wilson report for The New York Post.

“The boy was using the phone at home in East Flatbush on Saturday night when it suddenly burst into flames, his grandmother said Sunday,” Sullivan, Cohen and Wilson report. “‘The child was watching videos on the phone when the battery exploded,’ Linda Lewis said of her grandson. ‘It set off alarms in my house.'”

Sullivan, Cohen and Wilson report, “The boy’s family called 911 just before 8 p.m., and he was rushed to Downstate Medical Center with burns to his body.”

MacDailyNews Take: A horrendous outcome from a horrendous product peddled by a horrendous company.

If it’s not an iPhone, it’s an incendiary device cobbled together by a South Korean dishwasher maker.

    1. Samsung played Russian Roulette with the life and health and cars, houses, and property of their customers so they could rush a dangerous cobbled together and unfinished unsafe product to market before Apple.

They say it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye, well we are lucky no one has lost far more than that.

    1. Actually, the lawsuits coming Samsung’s way should be more than enough motivation for them to recall every single one of those phones as quickly as possible. This is one area where the legal vultures actually serve a good purpose.

      1. The lawsuits could end up costing Samsung more than the recall. Imagine how much they are going to be shelling out for a few horribly disfigured, badly burned children? Just get them in front of a jury.

    2. MDN should set up a big counter on their front page for how long Samsung and the CPSC have been deficient in ordering a mandatory recall.

Go look on the CPSC home page right now: no recall. Samsung is not even mentioned on their home page and if you do a search for Samsung, their “safety notice” about this matter is the fifth result. http://www.cpsc.gov

Now go look at Samsung’s home page. Nowhere is the term recall found. There is a one line text at the top of the page that sounds basically like a phone upgrade program: “GALAXY NOTE7 EXCHANGE PROGRAM: ACT NOW AND EXCHANGE YOUR DEVICE”. http://www.samsung.com/us/

Samsung expects the consumer to contact them, come into their store, and arrange the replacement themselves. This is plain BS. Samsung should be contacting all purchasers and making arrangements for the returns themselves.

  1. Can you imagine the media’s response if this was an iPhone?!!

The courts should be ashamed of themselves for even allowing this company to be making these products that were from patient infringement. What good are patients in this country anyway?

    1. My exact thoughts. Just ponder the all out assualt and vitriol if Apple had EXPLODING PHONES. Total skull Fck this country has become.

This Ass Clown Vivek Wadhwa is OPTIMISTIC about a ScamSCUM turnaround. UN fckin’ believable.

Vivek Wadhwa, professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Engineering, said he’s still optimistic Samsung will overcome it.

      http://www.cnbc.com/2016/09/12/how-samsung-may-amid-nightmare-recall.html?__source=yahoo|finance|headline|headline|story&par=yahoo&doc=103933150&yptr=yahoo

DELUTIONAL SYMPATHIZING JUNK PHONE PEDLAR… GTFO of my country and take your IP thieving cronies with you.

      1. Wadhwa said that’s still enough to keep up with the competition, Apple, which just released the new iPhone 7. CNBC reached out to both companies for comment.
“These things happen in technology,” Wadhwa told “Squawk Alley.” “What Samsung is doing is they are rapidly innovating, they’re rapidly getting technology out, while Apple is constipated. You’re not seeing any new features out of Apple, other than maybe a better camera … They’re copying everyone else.”

I am befuddled about this Ass Hat’s comments. He is in DISNEYLAND!

        1. Thank you iJah420. Here are the full spews from Vivek Wadhwa, professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Engineering:

“The way Samsung handled it is excellent because they admitted fault, they’re doing a full replacement, correcting the problem,” said Wadhwa. “I have no doubt that a few weeks from now, they will have replaced most of the telephones and the fans will continue buying the phone, because it is a beautiful phone. It’s the best phone ever made.”

Clearly NOT, professor. Did you take your Aricept today? Don’t make me scold you!

Did the little faeries dancing in your head tell you that, professor? I think someone forgot their nap time, didn’t they. Don’t make me call the nurse!

          – – The only reason this attention whore (IMHO) gets his kicks is by being deliberately outlandish IMHO).

Reference at CNBC… (And yes, this really is the illiterate title):
How Samsung may amid ‘nightmare’ recall

Seriously Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Engineering: RETIREMENT.

        2. So Samsung fucked up. Big deal….it’s still a kick ass phone compared to the POS that Apple just introduced. More voluminous babble from the famed Derek Currie. What an asshat!

  2. Some airlines now prohibit any Samsung devices on flights . its gone way beyond the note 7 and getting worse by the day !

why would anyone buy one of these things .. let alone hand it to their kid …. ??/

    1. I saw these warnings at Logan on Sunday. Various video monitors periodically posted a message that Samsung phones should not be put in checked bags and that if carried on they should be turned off. I’m not sure that even the off condition is safe. Plus, do all Samsung users know how to turn off their phones? And don’t you think there are some jerks who will ignore this warning because it inconveniences them and they will charge it while on the plane anyway? This is a disaster waiting to happen.

  3. Actually the joke is they only sold 2.5 million of these..

I bet not even half of these people have heard of the recall as if this was Apple they could contact via the users appleID

    1. Thanks for sharing the link, I feel bad for that guy it looks to me he will have permanent scars that did some pretty bad damage to his leg. One persons comment on the article pointed out something that I didn’t think of is how dangerous these phones could be if they exploded while used for VR, someone could end up permanently blind, that is way not cool samdung

  4. The mainstream media should be held criminally negligent for not publicizing this grave risk to the public on every newscast – they could literally save lives. Obviously Samsung has paid a F-Ton of money to bury this story as I’ve not seen it on anything but CNBC.

    1. I’m not so sure Samsung is trying to suppress this story by bribing journalists. I am more sure that journalists and their overlord publishers and editors are neglecting this story because it doesn’t generate the intense interest that any Apple-related story might. Yes, I find the media more reprehensible than the industrialists. I’ve felt that for some time, ever since the internet started eroding the old business model that supported journalism…the old, independent journalism, the one that had standards based on truth and fairness.

  5. iOS update makes it hard for you to find your music..class action lawsuit.

    Samsung makes an exploding phone..nothing.

I’m guessing it may be due to android users not being able to afford a lawyer? Maybe Stockholm syndrome? 😉

    1. Yeah, but these batteries aren’t punctured. It’s the battery controller and the connectors that are at fault. That is a quality control issue that should never happen. Do not make false equivalencies for this problem, it is a major issue and is negligent.
