All of Apple’s Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus models are sold out, shipments slip to November

Apple today began taking pre-orders for iPhones 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Apple online ordering was sluggish to unresponsive at times as pre-orders began at 12am PDT/3am EDT today and, nearly immediately, shipping dates began slipping.

For all four U.S. carriers, Apple’s flagship iPhone 7 Plus in Jet Black in both 128GB and 256GB capacities (the latter, the very models we successfully ordered; no, we didn’t buy them all, we don’t think) quickly began showing slipping shipping dates. At 6:15am PDT/9:15am EDT, if you want a Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus, your shipping date is listed as “November.”

The smaller iPhone 7 in Jet Black has also slipped, but the wait is shorter: 3-4 weeks, if you pre-order now. Jet Black is either extremely popular, or Apple had fewer of those to go around at launch. If you got an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus in Jet Black, you’re likely going to have a rather unique-looking iPhone for a few months at least!

Those who got their orders in earliest are slated to receive their iPhones on the official day of availability: Friday, September 16th.

MacDailyNews Take: As usual, Apple.com was inaccessible by the time we’d placed our orders for 256GB iPhone 7 Plus in Jet Black (and our Apple Watch Nike+ units) via the Apple Store app on our iPad Pro units.

Apple’s app began working, although sluggishly, shortly after 12am PDT/3am EDT today and, with our pre-orders already favorited, the process was relatively quick! By the time Apple.com became accessible online, some 15 minutes later, iPhone pre-order shipping times had already slipped.

  1. I had a very frustrating and wholly unsuccessful attempt to buy my iPhone 7 Plus Jet Black at 2am CDT this morning. I am with AT&T, but Pre-Pay not a contract, so I was ineligible to pre-order my iPhone. I’m now going to have to deal with huge lines at the Apple Store and I presume I’ll be buying a T-Mobile phone to then put my AT&T sim into, but I’m not sure. Grrrr. I was ready with the Apple Store app all prepared with my favorite and billing & shipping details ready to go, but now I’ll be at the mercy of stock in the store.

    1. It is not that bad since you can choose way more practical plain Black version. It will look great for a way longer time than the polished glossy Jet Black version (which is prone to scratches after a short while, and, immediately, to fingerprints), and it still provides a bad-ass looks that no previous iPhones of the 6/6s-series had.

        1. Apple itseld admits that there will be micro-scratches, no FUD here. And fingerprints are always there on any polished surface. The only way to deal with that is to choose white colour that makes both fingerprints and scratches way less visible.

  2. I made it on around 310am eastern, and after a few
Times of the apple app saying all 256GB 7plus’ where sold out at my local Apple Store here in Tampa. I was able to “settle” for a rose gold after a few tries. One thing is for sure, I’m liking the apple iPhone upgrade program thus far. It looks like its gonna work out just the way I usually do it except without me having to take the few days to sell my old iPhone.

  3. I tried to order the black 128 7plus on Verizon starting at 3am but by the time I got through, only FL and IL stores had it. Clicked back then POOF… Sold out everywhere. The black phones are a huge hit. I was hoping for a first day phone, but December will be fine. I still like my 6s

  4. Made it in on time! Not the 2-4 weeks I was nearly had (had to restart order), but 4-6 weeks for my Jet Black 256 GB iPhone 7 Plus. However, it’s on lock, and it’s coming soon 🙂

  5. It looked like an episode of the Big Bang Therory Show when they were trying to get Comic Con tickets at my house. I got in around 12:20 PST and was lucky enough to get a Jet Black 128. Feeling a little tired this morning but fortunate.

Obviously the demand is off the chart.

  6. I had nothing but problems, I don’t even want to get into it, but I’m extremely disappointed. This is the last year I upgrade annually, after having every flagship phone since 2007. I’m over it.

  7. it was funny I’m in upstate ny and I tried to get on the apple website at 3:01 am and it was still down then at like 3:10 am they finally opened the online store I didn’t score on apple.com but I scored on At&T but it kept messing up at first but then I kept going back and it finally let me check out what I wanted got the 128GB jet black plus but my ship date is in October last I bought a iPhone from them they said the same date but I got it on release date

  8. Order process fine until they asked for my Verizon password. They kept saying it was wrong, and I am not able to complete the order. That password is correct. Using that password I logged in to Verizon and could have ordered the phone there. But the cross check between Apple and Verizon seems screwed up. There seems to always be a glitch in new product online sales.

  9. Got in at 12:08 PDT for jet black 7 plus 256 but encountered interesting problem in Apple Canada store on iPhone app
Despite being registered forever said no ship date so ended up completing order on desktop
    4 week window

  10. Funny how everybody complains. You should have all expected how hard it is to pre order. This is par for the course with Apple. This is done on purpose. If it wasn’t, there would be plenty to go around. Suck it up and wait.

  11. Apples website wasn’t down… it was a caching problem. If you preloaded the website the chache would keep sending the “we’ve got something… please wait” message. After a few minutes I jumped Safari and went to Firefox, and it was up. But ultimately I used Apple Store App in my iPhone and used Apple Pay to make the purchase. 12:11AM confirmation, Oct 4-10 delivery. 128GB Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus.

I am hoping the delivery date will be updated soon. Same problems last year.

AT&T’s website let us Premeier customers in 10 minutes early, but I wanted to use Apple Pay and wanted an unlocked phone. I am not fretting so much over getting the phone in October. At least I will have a third batch phone, don’t have to fight lines, and not wait months for the hot color to become available.

10 minutes and in the third batch. That’s some hot item.

Also Verizon let some of their customers buy 30 minutes early, online. And if you sweet talked a store manager, they could preorder your phone mid day yesterday.
