Apple orders more parts for iPhone 7 amid Samsung recalls

“Apple is ramping up production of the iPhone 7 by ten percent, amid a recent spat of Samsung smartphone recalls,” Scott Gamm reports for TheStreet. “This is according to a report from Digitimes, which says Apple is ordering more parts from suppliers for the device, which is expected to be unveiled on Wednesday at an event in California.”

“Apple reportedly has revised upward orders by 10% for parts and components needed for production of the new iPhone devices scheduled to be released on September 7, according to sources from the iPhone supply chain in Taiwan,” Siu Han and Steve Shen report for DigiTimes.

“The hike in order volumes indicates that Apple still remains positive about replacement demand for new iPhones from existing iPhone users, said the sources, adding that Apple originally predicted that shipments of the new iPhone devices in the second half of 2016 will reach only 60% of iPhone shipments recorded in the year earlier period,” Han and Shen report. “Shipments of iPhone 6s reached 30 million units a month on average in the second half of 2015, the sources noted.”

  1. Still loving Scamsham’s battery exploding shot in the foot heard ’round the world. Can you think of any other company so deserving of the misfortune of an ill-timed & self-defeating screw-up? Funny we haven’t heard yet of corporate heads rolling. So many execs there have already swallowed their souls in Seoul.
