Apple Watch is now nearly completely sold out ahead of September 7th special event

“We noted last month that Apple Watch inventory was shrinking ahead of Apple’s expected fall event, and now it appears that almost all stainless steel Apple Watch models are sold out online and in limited supply in stores,” Zac Hall reports for 9to5Mac.

“Only one version of the steel Apple Watch is available to order online, and seven of the aluminum Apple Watch Sport models are sold out as well,” Hall reports. “This could mean a few things for Apple Watch 2 news at Apple’s September 7 ‘iPhone 7’ event.”

“Depleted inventory this many days before an event and possible launch date suggest Apple Watch 2 could be available in stores earlier in the month rather than several weeks after the announcement,” Hall reports. “Apple Watch Sport is also more available… This could suggest that first-generation stainless steel Apple Watches are discontinued while Apple keeps older Sport models around to hit a lower price… But there’s another aspect to consider. Analyst firm KGI expects a new Apple Watch 2 and a modified Apple Watch 1 with a slightly faster processor.”

    1. I would be surprised if Apple didn’t offer an upgrade option for Apple gold watches. Turn in your old gold watch and, for a modest fee, get the new one.
Don’t expect that to be announced right away. Apple will get around to it . . . after a few complaints.

  1. It’s amazing to me that the current model is “sold out” at this late stage, with “everyone” talking about “Apple Watch 2.” Especially with the more expensive stainless steel model. With any other product (not from Apple), most customers would just stop buying and wait. And there would be significant excess existing inventory when the new model arrived.
