“Unlike the days of Steve Jobs, Apple struggles to maintain the mystery of its new devices in the weeks leading up to the launch. Although much of the media will play along on the day, we all know what’s coming,” Ewan Spence writes for Forbes. “In the case of the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, what’s coming is just enough of a change to warrant a new model, but not enough spoil the mighty iPhone 8 and its technological advances due in 2017 on the tenth anniversary of the iPhone.”
“The iPhone 8 is expected to ship with curved screens, vivid OLED technology, all-glass panels and an innovative glass chassis, along with significant internal changes,” Spence writes. “The iPhone and iPhone 7 Plus have a two-year old design, similar screen sizes, construction and no changes to the core operating system.”
“If you buy your handsets outright every two years or you rely on a network contract, the iPhone 7 family will present you with a difficult upgrade choice. It is better, but not by much. There is something better coming up next year which will be a huge jump on the iPhone 6 or iPhone 5S you currently have. And very few people can afford to upgrade their smartphone every year,” Spence writes. “Which is where Apple’s secret weapon comes into play. The iPhone Upgrade Program… Apple allows members to get a new iPhone every year. All they need to do is commit to another year of monthly payments, trade in the existing handset and they can once more walk out of the Apple Store with the latest slice of silicon from Cupertino.”

It doesn’t matter whether it is the iPhone upgrade program or Sprint’s iPhone forever program, carriers win (and Apple too). If this truly benefited the consumer, these companies wouldn’t have these offers. They get our money one way or another. It is just different ways (not really better) to pay to play.
I own a T-Mobile sidekick. I bought it on a 10 year contract because it is made of platinum and has diamond studs. My 10-year contract is almost at an end, and I am considering upgrading to iPhone 7. Is it worth the upgrade? Does it have any advantages over my current phone?
Worth the upgrade? Nah. Not really. Sidekick and iPhone are roughly equivalent.
Spark_I’ve heard Android has a couple more security issues than iOS? They’re “roughly equivalent” is pure rationalization, no? Or, you leave your keys in the car and house doors unlocked too?

Last year, at about the same time, analysts were saying to wait for the iPhone 7. Next year they will advise to wait for the iPhone 9.
That was before they heard that the 7 would be a lackluster update.
I expect it will be too, and this being Cook’s Apple I anticipate the rest of the hardware updates will be uninspiring as well. Cook spent too much time buying off communists and promoting Bill’s wife to bother making sure Apple customers are actually happy.
Well good. I will buy the iPhone 7. I don’t want any stupid curved screen that creates more problems than it solves.
The only “iPhone 7 disappointment” is that I won’t be getting one : (

The iPhone 7 is the right one for me. It will fit in a variety of items such as my bike mount where the iPhone eight probably won’t.

Why are they rumoring Curved screens for iPhone 8. curved screens are dumb and serve no real purpose as I see it, they don’t even look at the cool. If the come out with OLED, nice, but its still a phone with a 4.7 or 5.5″ screen..
A screen that completely covers the front surface provides more area for touch and visual feedback without making the phone larger.
A screen that curves over edges could provide new or improved touch and visual feedback features.
You lack imagination.
