Twitter suspends 235,000 more accounts over extremism

“Twitter suspended 235,000 accounts that promoted terrorism over the last six months, as part of a continuing effort to keep people from using the social network for extremist causes, the company said Thursday,” Katie Benner reports for The New York Times. “‘The world has witnessed a further wave of deadly, abhorrent terror attacks across the globe,’ Twitter said in a statement. ‘We strongly condemn these acts and remain committed to eliminating the promotion of violence or terrorism on our platform.'”

“Twitter’s latest action brings the total number of accounts that the company has suspended to 360,000 since it began cracking down on terrorism and violent extremism in mid-2015,” Benner reports. “Daily suspensions for violating Twitter’s prohibition on terrorism are up over 80 percent since last year, with spikes in suspensions immediately following terrorist attacks, the company said.”

Benner reports, “Twitter also said it has expanded its teams that review reported violations, and it now moves faster to suspend accounts and make it harder for suspended users to return to the platform.”

  1. Gee that’s gonna be tough for that one guy who’s running for president somewhere and says he wants to reintroduce torture if elected. I mean face it, torture is a terrorist act and that nation has a precedence of doing so. I’m sure his account is one of the ones that has been suspended as a result of this extremist suggestion, unless of course… well I’ll let the reader fill in the rest of the blank.

    1. Your comment makes me think of that classical rejection slip “How can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself.” Imagine how many lives would be saved if the word love was replaced with something else.

      A most excellent point thetheloniousmac.

    2. Well then it wouldn’t be torture, would it?
Crooked Hillary thanks you in advance for your vote.
Thank God we didn’t have this attitude during WWII. Like Michael Savage always says, if it wasn’t for our brave men at that time, you’d be speaking German or you’d be a lamp shade.
Here’s a kind of torture I’d be willing to endure and also apply to a Muslim terrorist:
I’d gladly wade through a knee-deep pool of pigs blood. Would you?

  2. YouTube needs to do the same. I couldn’t believe the amount of people bloviating about a gastly demise for Hillary Clinton after Trump made that 2nd Amendment comment a week or so ago.

During the same time, I’ve read thousands upon thousands of less than flattering comments about Trump, and to the best of my recollection, not a single bot or person has wished Trump ill health. Although, at one point, many medical professionals were stating he should seek psychiatric care.

One of the best comments I have read recently was written by the son of a con. He states that one of the golden rules of a hustler is to never believe their own con. The other is to cut and run when the “gig is up”. Unfortunately, Trump has violated the first rule, and now he has nowhere to run. Some fear he will incite his believers to burn the house down. Should Twitter support this type of behavior? To me, this seems like a much larger threat to peace than foreign terrorists.

    1. “… not a single bot or person has wished Trump ill health.”

That’s because the majority of people don’t pick on the mentally ill, and that guy is madder than a hatter.

  3. Are the going to ban extreme posters from posting support for Trump? Now THAT should be considered a straight up hate crime. Trump is a racist hater who has no government experience. At least Clinton WAS in the White House, so that makes her more qualified. Of course, I’m still feelin’ the Bern, but anything but Trump is good.

    1. Islam is not a race.
      Mexico is not a race.
      China is not a race.

Trump is anti-islamic extremism not anti muslim.
Trump is anti-American politicians setting up poor trade deals with Mexico and China that puts U.S. at a disadvantage, nothing against the individuals other than those that chose to come here illegally (we have rules, we are a nation, follow the rules and you are welcome here).

Trump is not anti-black. It is the racist Democrats that have such low expectations for their voter-plantation slaves that they think they can get their votes by fueling hate and promote victimhood over self-reliance and self-sufficiency and personal responsibility. Democrats think they can let blacks riot and let off steam then blame the cops who need to restore order. No more.

Leftists and Islamic-supremacist sympathizers and Islam apologists beware. It’s over.

      TRUMP 2016

    1. You are in luck there’s a lot of fine candidates running for election this November including a general election in Nicaragua, a presidential election in Bulgaria, a municipal one in Mali, a gubernational one in Nigeria, a presidential one in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and a parliamentary one at the Cote d’Ivoire.

There might be a few others as well, check listings for times and dates.
