Apple Music signs deal to produce documentary about Cash Money Records

“Sources now tell MBW that the ‘power move’ involves the creation of a documentary about Cash Money and Birdman [co-founder of Cash Money], which will air exclusively on Apple Music,” Tim Ingham reports for Music Business Worldwide.

“Birdman’s Instagram post on Sunday (August 14) was accompanied an image of the rapper/entrepreneur striking a pose with Apple Music’s Larry Jackson,” Ingham reports. “Jackson, a former A&R exec at Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope, now plays a key role for his former boss at Apple – targeting artists, especially those from the hip-hop/R&B world, with exclusivity deal offers. Jackson was also tagged in the Instagram post.”

“Interestingly, one of Cash Money’s key artists – Lil Wayne – is thought to be a stakeholder in TIDAL, where he released his FWA album exclusively last year. Even more interestingly, Cash Money is itself exclusively distributed by Universal Music Group worldwide,” Ingham reports. “One wonders what Sir Lucian Grainge [Chairmain and CEO, Universal Music Group] makes of the label inking a direct partnership with one of the biggest streaming services on the planet. Keep your eyes peeled for more Apple Music label exclusives being announced in the coming months.”

  1. There is no more disgusting form of music on this planet than Rap. I NEVER listen to Beats 1 because every time I put on that god forsaken station, I ALWAYS hear rap. It is profoundly disgusting.

The more Apple promotes RAP, the less I care.

    1. It’s why I canceled my Beats Music subscription after Apple bought them and started promotions with Spike Lee and other assorted hate spewers. That acquisition, the association with Dr. Dre, other rappers, and now this, smacks so hard of lame guys trying to be cool and appeal to young people. Who knows, kids are so far gone these days it may work. No thanks for me though.
