“Since he was officially named Apple’s CEO in 2011, Tim Cook has often told the story of the advice Steve Jobs gave him just before he died,” Jena McGregor reports for The Washington Post. “In the memorial service at Apple headquarters, and in numerous interviews since, Cook has shared the words of wisdom Jobs bestowed on his successor. ‘Among his last advice he had for me, and for all of you, was to never ask what he would do,’ Cook recalled in an Oct. 19 speech at Apple headquarters. ”Just do what’s right,’ he said.'”
McGregor reports, “Five years later, Cook expanded on that, saying that the next best advice he received was ‘to be myself, to just be myself,’ he said in an exclusive interview with The Washington Post. ‘[Jobs] took away the self doubt that would naturally be there in whoever followed him. He was so smart to think about it and know what a gift it would be. There’s no bigger gift he could have given me than that statement. It took away the heavy weight.'”

Move on people, it’s been almost 5 years since Steve passed. These interviews with Cook are becoming as derivative as Apple’s products. Down-vote away you lemmings!

If Steve were alive today…………he’d be clawing at the inside of his coffin.
I’m pretty sure they stuffed a few iPhones (fully-charged) in his casket waiting should the need arise (pun intended).

I expect if anyone were alive today, in a coffin, they’d be doing the same.
To me, Apple exists in the spirit of the people that work here, and the sort of philosophies and purpose by which they go about their business. If Apple just becomes a place where computers are a commodity item and where the romance is gone, and where people forget that computers are the most incredible invention that man has ever invented, then I’ll feel I have lost Apple. But if I’m a million miles away and all those people still feel those things and they’re still working to make the next great product, then I will feel that my genes are still in there.

SJ “Don’t ask what I would do, just do what is right’ as far as I can see they are one of the same. Steve jobs created an amazing blueprint on how to ‘just do what is right’ it was the blueprint of a brilliant company and a blueprint for amazing products. So yes Tim by all means be yourself, but be yourself by following the blueprint Steve left you.
Apple is a company that makes electronic products. Sometimes they are really good. Sometimes they are not. Steve Jobs was a guy. He did a few things. He did not save the world or make it a better place. He made and sold some things.
No. You need to do some reading about Apple and its history. Oh and don’t come back here until you do. Then you won’t make a fool of yourself, again.
If SJ said “don’t ask what ‘I’ would do.” I believe he meant that he had spent the last 12+ years assembling and grooming his successors to know exactly what to do without question.
He also built a roadmap chock-a-block full of products and beta/dev concepts to move forward.
It should have been like the time worn axiom of Harley-Davidson: “If I have to tell you, you wouldn’t understand.”
At the end of the day, who cares what happens to Apple? Steve died a billionaire, Cook is worth hundreds of millions, whatev.
