iTunes 12.5 and iOS 10 Music app to add lyrics to song playback

“Those people who care about the words of the songs they love have long wanted to be able to easily view lyrics when playing music in iTunes or on iOS devices,” Kirk McElhearn writes for Kirkville. “There have been suggestions that Apple would be adding this, and in the latest beta version of iTunes 12.5, lyrics are now available.”

“To view lyrics, play some music, then click the Up Next menu. There are now three tabs: Up Next, History, and Lyrics,” McElhearn writes. “If you find a song where Apple can provide lyrics – and it’s not yet clear how many songs offer lyrics, or which songs they are – you’ll see the words of the song in this tab.”

“If you leave this menu visible, lyrics will display as songs change (as long as the lyrics are available),” McElhearn writes. “And if you have added lyrics to your songs, they display in the same way.”

MacDailyNews Take: Finally!

  1. Finally? iTunes and iOS have both been able to display lyrics for a long time. Now, it they mean iTunes will display the lyrics in the main window, or even a floating secondary window, that would be a finally moment. Or so they mean it will pull in lyrics automatically while the song is playing. There are of course, other programs that do this, like Get Lyrical, so it isn’t really that big of a deal either.

    1. I presume it means pull in, and it’s a big deal for iTunes since it’s lacked it for so long. My concern is it won’t add it to the song itself so you’ll still be screwed when you go mobile.

  2. Brilliant. I’ve had lyrics attached to most of my (7,000+) song titles for many years (Get Lyrical finds most lyrics) but find it fiddly to display them on the Mac especially (Get Info, etc.) but also on the iOS gear (you have to tap the screen each time to bring them up).
