Donald Trump plan calls for cuts in corporate taxes, personal income tax rates

“Donald Trump called Monday for a ‘tax revolution’ modeled on the vision of Ronald Reagan that would slash income tax rates, cut corporate taxes and create millions of jobs for a new era of prosperity,” Daniel Halper and Bob Fredericks report for The New York Post. “‘These reforms will offer the biggest tax revolution since the Reagan tax reform, which unleashed years of continued economic growth and job creation,’ the GOP presidential nominee told the Detroit Economic Club.”

“In an hour-long address that also called for toughening trade policies and easing regulatory directives, Trump proposed to simplify the tax code to just three brackets from the current seven — 12, 25 and 33 percent,” Halper and Fredericks report. “‘I am proposing an across-the-board income tax reduction, especially for middle-income Americans,’ Trump proclaimed, though the highest wage earners would see their rate fall from 39.6 to 33 percent. ‘The rich will pay their fair share, but no one will pay so much that it destroys jobs or undermines our ability as a nation to compete.'”

“The mogul also called for capping corporate taxes at 15 percent, down from the current 35 percent rate, a move long advocated by Republicans,” Halper and Fredericks report. “‘No family will have to pay the death tax. American workers have paid taxes their whole lives, and they should not be taxed again at death. It’s just plain wrong,’ Trump said. Hedge-funders would take it on the chin, as Trump vowed to end the ‘carried interest loophole,’ which allows them to pay the lower capital gains tax rate instead of the regular income tax rate… Moving from taxes, Trump proposed stronger protections for American intellectual property, pointedly accusing China of being the worst offender.”

MacDailyNews Take: “Stronger protections for American intellectual property.” Imagine that.

As we’ve stated many times: Obviously, U.S. corporate taxes are too high.

Under the current U.S. corporate tax system, it would be very expensive to repatriate that cash. Unfortunately, the tax code has not kept up with the digital age. The tax system handicaps American corporations in relation to our foreign competitors who don’t have such constraints on the free flow of capital… Apple has always believed in the simple, not the complex. You can see it in our products and the way we conduct ourselves. It is in this spirit that we recommend a dramatic simplification of the corporate tax code. This reform should be revenue neutral, eliminate all corporate tax expenditures, lower corporate income tax rates and implement a reasonable tax on foreign earnings that allows the free flow of capital back to the U.S. We make this recommendation with our eyes wide open, realizing this would likely increase Apple’s U.S. taxes. But we strongly believe such comprehensive reform would be fair to all taxpayers, would keep America globally competitive and would promote U.S. economic growth.Apple CEO Tim Cook, May 21, 2013

  1. Tim Cook and Apple are supporting the wrong candidate. Apple and Cook say they want simplified corporate taxes and their IP protected, so why are they supporting Crooked Hillary who will deliver neither?

    1. “Apple and Cook say they want simplified corporate taxes and the IP protected, so why are they supporting Crooked Hillary who will deliver neither?”

      Good question.

      1. Cook (thus Apple) support Hillary because she can be bought, while Trump is a loose, unpredictable cannon. Enough corporations want lower rates, or a “tax holiday” as Bill Clinton delivered, Hillary Clinton will likely allow if enough dollars come into her campaign (it’s why Bernie folks hate her so much. She talks a Socialist/Communist game, but she’s not truly there).

Secondly, Hillary has the LGBT coalition behind her. While Trump is also fine with all this lifestyle protectionism, the money for it is behind the Democrat candidate.

        So there you go.

        1. The “loose, unpredictable cannon” crap is Democrat Party bullshit. They fear Trump because he cannot be bought. Otherwise, you are correct, sir.

Speaking of loose and unpredictable, do you want her finger near the button when the next auditory-triggered seizure hits?

Atonic or akinetic seizures are characterized by loss of body tone that can produce nodding of the head, weakness of the knees, or total collapse and falling. The patient usually remains conscious during the attack.

Audiogenic epilepsy (also: auditory epilepsy) is a reflex epilepsy brought on by sound.

        2. Keep up the great work, I don’t have the patience to keep up with all of the prog drones on this board 🙂

Politics aside, Hillary will die or be incapacitated shortly into her presidency, her health is an absolute disaster and will probably decide the election in Trump’s favor. Hey stupid progressives, your candidate has someone with a friggin anti-seizure emergency syringe next to her at all times! WTF: http://www.dangerandplay.com/2016/08/07/hillarys-health-hillaryshealth-cannot-be-ignored/

        3. Being gay isn’t a lifestyle, any more than being straight is a lifestyle. You don’t choose to be gay; so when did you choose to be straight? If you’re straight, you’ve never been denied housing, a job, had a problem getting a marriage license, denied seeing a partner in hospital or gay bashed because you’re gay. If your child was gay you’d want them to have the same civil rights you enjoy. This is issue #1 for those who still don’t have all their civil rights and Trump will make it worse. Voting for Clinton is the lesser of two evils but at least she’s promised protections for gay rights.

    2. Maybe they want someone sane who won’t ask why we can’t just use nukes on countries?

Trump would be the beginning of the end…nevermind his atrocious record as a businessman, his racism, his sexist attitude and just his plain enormous ego. As a Canadian, we’re watching next door hoping the crazy nut job doesn’t move in.

Hillary is a wall Street shill, but at least she won’t start WW3 and wreck your entire country.

      1. Just for the record, not all Canadians are feeble minded illiberal pussies. Trump is not the candidate most likely to use the nukes. Clinton was for the Iraq war, Trump was opposed; Clinton destroyed Lybia and ripped off all the gold; Clinton destroyed, pretty much, Syria, creating Isis in the process.

        1. Trump was just in the news claiming he would use them. He is promoting Hitler’s style government, suppressing woman, immigrants, giving nazi style salutes, promoting violence. Not one former living president will vote for him. He’s an idiot who does not know anything about running this country.

    3. Apple is not supporting Trump.
Trump is only looking out for himself and the rich.
The middle class will get nothing. He’s the biggest idiot on this planet and is not fit for any
      Government office.

    1. 100% agree. Please stop the politicized commentary on an article that has next to nothing to do with Apple!

Neither candidate is prefect and this isn’t the site to be discussing the election. If anything, Trump is person calling for a ban on Apple Products, that is more an apple issue than anything in this article.

  2. I’m a UK citizen, so totally unbiased in my opinion that Trump and Clinton are both bad for the US. However, whilst you still have an electoral system that’s completely driven by how much money you have, I’m afraid you’re stuck with idiots.

    1. Well at least Hillary has campaigned saying that even if an amendment to the constitution is required Citizens united must be overturned .
You are right about campaign financing . Most democracies have very tight rules about financing and separating money from elections would do far more to disrupt the political system than electing an aging sociopath who appears to be in the early stages of dementia

      1. I think you may be confusing the Orlando shooter with his father. The guy is clearly an ordinary immigrant who clearly has English comprehension problems.

What you are implying is that this particular non-event will affect the American voting population in such a way that the probability that Clinton would win the election (currently calculated at 82% vs. 18% for Trump) will swing all the way in the opposite direction.

I think this is very much wishful thinking on your part. There is no chance in hell this particular non-event will register even as a blip on anyone’s radar (although some American news outlets that strongly favour conservatives will try to milk it as much as possible).

        1. Seddique Mateen hosts a program on a California-based satellite Afghan TV station, aimed at the Afghan diaspora in the in the U.S., called the “Durand Jirga Show.”

In the video, Seddique Mateen says: “God will punish those involved in homosexuality.”

A senior Afghan intelligence source tells CBS News correspondent Lara Logan that the show is watched by some in people in Afghanistan but the primary audience is ethnic Pashtun Afghans living in the U.S. and Europe.

The Taliban Islamic extremist movement is comprised almost entirely of Pashtuns, and Mateen’s show takes a decidedly Pashtun nationalistic, pro-Taliban slant; full of anti-U.S. rhetoric and inflammatory language aimed at non-Pashtuns and at Pakistan, the source told Logan.

The name of the show references the Durand line, the disputed border between Afghanistan and Pakistan that was established in the 19th century by Britain. It has long been at the heart of deep-seated mistrust between Afghans and Pakistanis.

Seddique Mateen once campaigned in the United States for current Afghan President Ashraf Ghani — seen as a moderate leader — who appeared on his program in 2014. But since then Seddique has turned against Ghani in both his broadcasts and numerous videos posted to a Facebook account.

In his Facebook videos, the alleged gunman’s father has often appeared wearing a military uniform and declaring himself the leader of a “transitional revolutionary government” of Afghanistan. He claims to have his own intelligence agency and close ties to the U.S. Congress — assets he says he will use to subvert Pakistani influence and take control of Afghanistan.

After watching his videos — none of which were recorded in English — CBS News’ Ahmad Mukhtar said it seemed possible that Seddique Mateen is delusional. “He thinks he runs a government in exile and will soon take the power in Kabul in a revolution,” notes Mukhtar.

  3. Hey MDN, Just keep on commingling political BS with Apple News, while at the same time promoting presidential election-losing right wing ideology (MDN just LOVES Rush Limbaugh) and watch your readership continue to decline… You know, there’s a reason the only demographic group that continues to support Trump is non-college-educated men.

    1. Listen, I totally get that you are relishing these moments, but honestly, I don’t think what you’re doing is nice. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel.

Never have American conservatives had a candidate who so profoundly conflicts with most of their common ideas, and never have they ever had to contort themselves into a pretzel in order to show support for their party’s official candidate. Let’s remind ourselves; their candidate supports:

      Gay marriage
Revocation of trade agreements (such as NAFTA and TTP)
      Universal Mandate for health care
      Pro-choice
      Decent minimum wages

Not to forget the amounts of money he gave to various Democratic candidates, including Hilary Clinton (last time she ran, as well as previously, for the senate). Republicans received significantly less from Trump in years and decades past.

I am pretty sure most intelligent American conservatives realise that Trump isn’t a Democrat or a Republican; he is in it to promote Trump and nothing else. And this is a serious problem. Never have so many sitting Republican office holders officially declined to support their party’s presidential candidate, and even worse, declared support for the Democratic opponent.

Large percentage of American electorate votes along the party ticket. With Trump’s chances so low this season, Republican senators and congressmen up for election in this season are at great risk of losing an otherwise pretty sure seat to unknown challengers due to party ticket voting habits.

Let us see how this proceeds, but a very likely outcome may be an all-Democratic sweep across the board, in which case, the next four years would initiate some profound changes in America that could strongly reverberate across the planet.

  4. “…Trump proposed to simplify the tax code to just three brackets from the current seven — 12, 25 and 33 percent…” But what he doesn’t tell you is who gets what bracket.. My guess is the rich get the 12% bracket and the rest of us get stuck with 25% and 33%….

    34. Only President in history who has illegally and sleazily paid $400 million in taxpayer money in ransom to Iran for hostages, which puts a price on every Americans head.

    35. Pardoned more than 560 convicted criminals for drug dealing, gangbanging, firearms trafficking etc., which is more than the last nine Presidents combined.

    36. Only President in history that has promoted and indirectly funded domestic terrorist groups like Black Lives Matter and Black Panthers that have called for the killing of police officers.

    1. Dear lord, you could have asked my ten-year old to make up a list of 36 things and she would have given you more accuracy and truth.

You should have said “Hitler!” and be done with it (see Goodwin’s Law).

      1. Dear Lord, Predrags’ 10-year old can come up with a more accurate list?!?!? 🐂💩💩💩

If the father is clueless, how can the kid be smarter?

Breaking news: 10-year olds are INCAPABLE of political discourse with any kind of acumen and life experience.

So, please spare us intelligent beings your childish rants.

You did not disagree one iota with ANYTHING Bill listed.

Instead, the typical Democrat response: DEFEND AND DEFLECT.

Go home and play with your kids. 🤖

        1. Did you actually read my post? Let me repeat:

“…you could have asked y ten-year old to make up a list […] and she would have given you more accuracy and truth”.

In other words, the list is utter junk. Even ten-year olds, who are indeed incapable of ‘political discourse’, would have stumbled upon more truth in their lists than what one can find in the list above.

He should have simply said “Hitler!” (in accordance with Goodwin’s Law).

        2. Yes, I got your ridiculous point.

The problem is the LIST IS ACCURATE for the most part and in your partisan pea brain, it is not.🐂💩

          Got it? Good!

        3. Look, I’m not an American, I have no horse in your race. All I’m saying is, it would take ten minutes to debunk pretty much any one of the 36 items on the list as falsehoods.

You can’t seem to be capable thinking beyond your party’s official mantra. That is rather sad (for you, as well as for your country).

        4. What’s sad is your closed mind, ASININE ARGUMENTS and continued disdain for any thoughts that are not EXTREME left.

SO, it will take only 10 minutes to debunk over 30 points? Would be that be you or your 10-year-old?

I’m calling out your ridiculous comment. Not even a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist can pull that off in 10 minutes. Drama and hypebole much? I’ll give you 24 hours … good luck.

        5. Reading comprehension:

…”it would take ten minutes to debunk pretty much any one of the 36 items”…

You can’t really argue with anyone if you don’t even bother to properly read what they are arguing.

      1. Yeah, you gave up because like Predrag, you can’t handle the truth and you were probably looking for an early out.

Like Predrag, you did not disagree one iota with ANYTHING Bill listed. Facts are stubborn things.

And I can’t blame you. The Obama record is one of the worst in history, if not the worst of all time.

Your dreams and wasted votes have been dashed. I feel your pain … 🇺🇸

        1. I didn’t bother to read your very long diatribe because you FAILed the comprehension test in the first sentence. I won’t bother to read your blahblah in the future… Except Oh, you post as an anonymous coward with any nick you like that day. I bet I can tell it’s you anyway.

As for whose the worst president in history, GW Bush has that locked up. Go study the history of PNAC, their taking over the White House and the trickery the pulled on 9/11. I’m not talking about conspiracy theory nonsense. I’m talking about the so far known facts of 9/11.

As for Obama, he has been readying to leave the dung of his legacy on our heads for years. Last month he signed ‘The Dark Act’ that overrides state’s GMO labeling laws with an idiotic alternative that makes it difficult for mere humans to know exactly what they’re eating. Coming up are his nightmare trade ‘treaties’ that are pure, adulterated corporatocracy perpetrated across the world. They are the TPP (TransPacific Partnership) and TTIP (TransAtlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) ‘treaties’, written specifically by corporations. They undermine all democracies, placing a vast amount of world law into the hands of corporations. They are abominations of citizen abuse.

So yes, Obama will inevitably win second prize in the Worst US President ever contest.

Notice how I can write coherently with full knowledge of my subjects? I can even post links to reference documents. But I know full well you’d never bother to read them, just as you’ve, again, never bothered to look fundamental political terms or understood their meanings.

I’ve been very charitable to you today. I won’t be bothering to respond to your ignorance, at least in this thread, again.

        2. Your partisan hatred of Dubya is well known on MDN FOR YEARS NOW.

Why you won’t let it go baffles logic.

No, you are DEAD WRONG! Obama is the worst president in the history of the U.S. GWB Is one of the best because of his strength in dealing with terrorism.

Words not on the lips of the current POTUS and the grandma ESTABLISHMENT presidential candidate that BOTH are afraid to utter.

So, take your self righteous anger elsewhere. I will read EVERYTHING. What you choose to read does not concern me.

Regarding your decades old diatribes against “anonymous cowards” posting, well, let’s just say we have our personal reasons and freedoms from the likes of you.

          Have a great day. 👻

        3. Your partisan hatred of Dubya is well known on MDN FOR YEARS NOW.

          I’m SHOCKED! 😆

GWB voluntarily conspired to ENABLE terrorism against the USA. His administration KNEW about the plot. That’s dead proven. PNAC, aka most of his cabinet including the VP, put that plot to work for them in order to create their stated Pearl Harbor-like event that would motivate We The Sheeple to go along with their utter bullshit plans to invade Iraq as well as other worldwide military disruptions.

I have the ENTIRE PNAC website I can share with you if you’d like a copy. They very clearly stated their goals and used the GWB administration to accomplish them. GWB went along for the ride.

I didn’t bother to read the rest of your nonsense as I see no point in arguing with crazy people. The above was written for people who actually CARE about reality, vs poliTardical propaganda, such as your rubbish. Be scared of YOURSELF, sad sucker. 🙀

        4. I see black helicopters over my house after they fled Area 51 security and the Grandmother presidential candidate is HONEST and BROKE.

          Whatever, Derek.

          Enjoy your delusions. 🐂💩

        5. Look, you can’t seem to see anything past your own nose (as directed by your party).

Derek Curie is clearly no fan of your current president (Obama), but even some of your Republican lawmakers agree that Bush Junior was without argument, the most disastrous president in the history of America.

American greatest problem today is that the era of Twitter, Facebook and the 140-character attention span created absurdly simplistic political landscape that essentially distilled the two American political parties into two extremes, and most of the American voting population seems to be so polarised that they no longer bother using their own brain to do their political thinking but instead accept political positions expressed in 140 characters (or less).

That will surely Make America Great again…

  6. Trumps plans are stupid plans. The estimate is that his tax plans, if carried through fully, will result in $2 trillion is less taxes. That would put the deficit for a year at around $2.7 trillion. And conservatives like that?

Remember this plan is from the far right wing of the Republican Party. It’s the discredited concept of trickle down economics, which George Bush senior had labeled “Voodoo Economics” when he was in the primaries against Reagan, before Reagan selected him as his running mate. It resulted in the largest deficits this nation ever had since World War II. Reagan spent the next 6 years raising taxes in the hope of fixing his blunders.

But the plan Trump is presenting is far worse

    1. The economic boom and job creation (new tax payers) that results more than takes care of the tax cuts. Leaving that out of your equation is disingenuous. Reagan was fighting and winning the Cold War. That’s what the bulk of the spending was for – bankrupting the USSR. It worked perfectly.

Trump’s plans will lift the USA of of its Dem/Lib/Prog stupor and the malaise and stagnation will be nothing but an unpleasant memory of the Feckless Obama/Crooked Hillary years.

        1. Excellent spin, LOL.

Your comment prompted me to study the accuracy of your remark.

From a CNN article: ‘ “Reagan was certainly a tax cutter legislatively, emotionally and ideologically. But for a variety of political reasons, it was hard for him to ignore the cost of his tax cuts,” said tax historian Joseph Thorndike.

Two bills passed in 1982 and 1984 together “constituted the biggest tax increase ever enacted during peacetime,” Thorndike said.

The bills didn’t raise more revenue by hiking individual income tax rates though. Instead they did it largely through making it tougher to evade taxes, and through “base broadening” — that is, reducing various federal tax breaks and closing tax loopholes.” ‘

          You like loopholes and shelters?

So not only did Reagan cut taxes which reduced everyone’s tax burden that they should be paying, he made it harder for others to cheat or use shelters which INCREASED REVENUE without increasing taxes or tax rates.

Sounds like Reagan did a lot of good and I would not go around claiming he raised taxes.

        2. geez! Really. So the Carter economy where unemployment reached double digits and the prime rate went to 21%, that wasn’t an economic crisis??! Those were the worst years of my life until the past 8. You couldn’t even finance a car at one point. Mortgage rates were 15%. Horrible time! Not to mention letting Iran make a mockery of the US with the hostage crisis which ended the day Reagan took office. Study an older textbook where history hasn’t been sanitized.

    2. Contrary to Obama’s prescription of more government spending and regulation, President Reagan diagnosed government as the problem and prescribed a plan of lowering tax rates and reducing regulations to free firms and workers from disincentives to invest and work.

This limited-government prescription led to a 92-month expansion — one of the longest on record — and helped increase the percentage of the working population from 57% to 63%.

A substantially different policy approach provided vastly different results.

To compare the employment growth between the two recoveries, consider the current recovery’s 54-month period through December 2013 with the same recovery length after the 1981-82 recession.

After adjusting for differences in the population in each period using the percentage of the adult population who are employed, it is possible to compare the actual employment under Obama and the projections from the November 1982 to May 1987 recovery under Reagan.

During each of these 54-month expansions, actual monthly net job gains averaged 240,000, or about 13 million total, in the 1980s and only 79,000 in the current recovery. If the period after June 2009 had the same gains as in the 1980s, adjusted average job gains would be an outstanding 340,000 per month.

There would be a total of 14.4 million more people employed over this period and 12.7 million more employed than when the recession started, reaching pre-recession employment by September 2010 — something the actual recovery has failed to do.

Depending on labor force growth, there may not be a need for this many jobs added over the 54-month period; nevertheless, it is quite remarkable.

This provides an example of the success of Reagan’s limited-government prescription compared with Obama’s big-government prescription.

Historically, there is a clear fiscal policy prescription for bringing people out of their parent’s garage and back into creating businesses in their own garage: low taxes, spending restraint and stable regulations.

  7. Why do people think Trump can’t be bought? He’ll sell his name for anything. Chinese shirts and ties, steaks, etc. If Trump has so much chutzpah, why is he afraid to let us all see his giant bald spot in the middle of his head?

    1. Yes, you are obviously more comfortable with liberal propaganda crap.

Please close the door behind you when you leave.

The current administration has been putting coal miners out of work and raised electricity rates as a result.

Unless you are clueless, you do know coal powers the majority of electricity production in the U.S.

We don’t want to waste energy.

  8. These reforms will offer the biggest tax revolution since the Reagan tax reform

Accompanied with RECORD BUDGET DEFICITS, as was the result of the Reagan tax reforms?

You can’t stop stupid. I prefer balanced budgets over poliTardical blahblahblah promises to the suckers. IOW: It’s not that simple Donald. Sorry. Try again!

      1. Relevance?

I always find it pathetic that mere I, who has zero interest in or ability to be US President can run rings around the logic of someone who pretends to have interest in and zero ability to be US President. I’d like to somehow comprehend presidential candidates to be leaders, instead of loudmouth louts. Sorry Bot, but this Trump guy is a reality TV character with four bankruptcies left in his windbag wake. He’s not presidential material.

        And neither is Princess Hillary.

        1. There never will be a Currie Tower. Why would I ever name a tower after myself? Why would I need to name a tower after myself?

Oh yeah, maybe because I have a mental abyss of emptiness, worthlessness and insecurity in my soul, therefore I overcompensate by selling myself to the world as a nexus of power and control while erecting giant monuments to myself and running for election to the most powerful human office in the modern world. All hail my mammoth ego. It’ll be huge! We’ll set off nukes in celebration of my inauguration day…. Then I’ll get bored and let everything to hell. 💤💤

          *humor*

        2. Trump has created over 500 businesses, four bankruptcies is a quite small percentage…Henry Ford filed for bankruptcy twice, Walt Disney several times, Aj Heinz, William Durant (GM founder), Ulysses S. Grant, Francis Ford Coppola even Abraham Lincoln filed for bankruptcy….pretty good company. The key to success is perseverance when you fail and learn from it…a noble quality in a president.

    1. Number 1: The record budget deficits are under Obama as well as the trillions in national debt — HIGHEST EVER IN HISTORY.

      Do you understand?

Number 2: Reagan tax cuts led to greatest economic expansion in modern times.

But, in a DEVIL DEAL with DEMOCRATS he allowed government spending to increase.

When you spend two dollars for every dollar you take in, gee, deficits.

So, you can blame Reagan if that makes you feel good, but that is a shallow partisan view.

To be fair and balanced, you need to look at all parts of the political equation.
