Faster Apple Watch 2 with onboard GPS, barometer, better battery and more water-resistance coming this year

“KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo issued a research note to investors today in which he predicts an all-new Apple Watch 2 will likely launch in the second half of 2016 with a faster TSMC-built processor, GPS, barometer, superior waterproofing, and a higher capacity battery,” Joe Rossignol reports for MacRumors.

“The second-generation Apple Watch will retain the same screen sizes and thickness as existing models, with a similar form factor overall, despite adopting thinner display technology,” Rossignol reports. “However, while the Apple Watch 2 was once rumored to include cellular connectivity, Kuo does not expect LTE support until 2017.”

Rossignol reports, “The analyst also predicted that upgraded first-generation Apple Watch models will debut in the second half of 2016 with the same processor and waterproofing upgrades, but likely without the Apple Watch 2’s most significant additions like a GPS and barometer.”

  1. If all goes according to rumored plan Apple will have a rich load of new products this fall making for one hellacious Christmas quarter this year. (All I ask is that a newly updated and re-towered Mac Pro PRO be among them. Is that so wrrr-onnng?)

    1. I fell asleep at:

“The second-generation Apple Watch will retain the same screen sizes and thickness as existing models, with a similar form factor overall…”

    2. Exactly! A quarter-size the big box with a similar drop down side, loaded with the basics and additional slots to make it an even bigger number crunching monster that I’m sure it will be.

      1. ANYTHING but the same old 2013 Mac Pro design in a 2016 Mac Pro II. I really hope they’re listening. Just give me an excuse Phil, Tim and Apple to happily spring loose some cold hard ca$h for the pro machine of my dreams!

  2. I won’t be without my Apple Watch… Space Grey Sport with a black Milanese Loop strap.

The fitness benefits are worth it alone, as a shift worker having my watch remind me to get up and walk around a bit every hour made me realise after a few days of using it how lazy I’d become when I was working.

Looking forward to WatchOS3, from what I’ve seen in the Keynote it’ll make my watch so much better.
