“Touch panel maker TPK Holding suffered a net loss per share of NT$7.28 (US$0.228) for the second quarter of 2016, the company disclosed at a July 28 investors conference,” Siu Han and Adam Hwang report for DigiTimes.
“The large loss for the second quarter was mainly because touch panel orders for iPhones continued to decrease, and Apple will change touch panel technology from G/G [glass-glass] to OGS (one glass solution) in the new Apple Watch to be launched in the second half of 2016, TPK said,” Han and Hwang report. “The change in touch panel technology involved unexpected technological difficulties and therefore yield rates for OGS touch panels were much lower than expected, TPK explained.”

Apple watch. Watch me not care. I’ve spoken with about 10 people recently regarding Apple and all of them are disappointed in the lack of innovation. I’ve been Apple since the 1980’s going to buy an Android and give it a go.
Yeah I guess disingenuously “disappointed” because they can’t call up Scotty to “beam us up.” Get real. This Watch does plenty of great stuff and the next Watch OS will continue that trend. (Don’t know if those 10 people have noticed but that’s the way technology works – over time = advancements). For every 10 clueless people that don’t get it though there are a thousand that do.
In addition to Mrs. Ziffel and I, everyone I’ve spoken with who has an Apple Watch loves it. Looking forward to watchOS 3 and all its new goodies, which will make Apple Watch even better.
How many times have we heard this “disappointed in Apple, going to Android” refrain from anonymous posters on this forum? Undoubtedly the number is in the thousands by now…
How can you fault Apple for a preceived “lack of innovation” and then use that (faulty) rationale as justification to switch to “Android”? Android is not a product line, by the way, it is an operating system. It is also worth pointing out that the Android operating system and the vast majority of the smartphones and tablets are highly derivative (slavishly copied?) from Apple’s iOS, iPhone, and iPad. Therefore, if you are seeking originality and innovation, you are headed in the opposite direction with Android, in general.
So you and your ten acquaintances are switching to Android. Watch us not care…
I also have to add that your story does not add up. If you have “been Apple” since the 1980s then you stuck with Apple during the dark ages of the mid-1990s, the OS X transition in the early 2000s, the Intel transition later in the 2000s, etc. All of these were tumultuous times that might have been used as justification for jumping ship. However, since 2007 Apple has merely reinvented the world with the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and th slimmer and trimmer MacBook Air which spawned a whole new era of laptop design, as evidenced by the PC “Ultrabooks.” Everyone has copied Apple since the release of the CRT iMac in 1998. But, somehow, you and ten others find a reason to be dissatisfied with a recent lack of innovation? You have to be joking…
The Pro users have a legitimate beef with Apple over the past four or five years. You don’t.
We all know by now that “Paid Internet Troll” is a well-established job classification in 2016. Rik is just earning his pay. We all know that this is a truly “dirty job, ” but those of Rik’s ilk figure that if he doesn’t do it, someone else will.
