Kanye West tries to goad Apple CEO Tim Cook to buy Tidal

“Taking a break from his social media spat with pop singer Taylor Swift, rapper Kanye West this weekend took to Twitter to try to goad Apple (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook into buying streaming music service Tidal.,” Patrick Seitz reports for Investor’s Business Daily.

“Late last month, Apple was rumored to be looking to buy Tidal, a streaming music service run by rap mogul Jay Z, to add more exclusive content for its own service, Apple Music. Tidal has strong ties to popular artists such as West, Beyonce, Rihanna and Madonna,” Seitz reports. “West is reportedly a Tidal shareholder.”

Seitz reports, “With takeover talks apparently stalled, West went on Twitter (TWTR) and posted one of his famous rants to prod an Apple Music-Tidal merger into happening.”

  1. You’d have to be pretty stupid to imagine that Apple would be persuaded by that sort of behaviour.

If he wants Apple to buy Tidal, he would do better to explain exactly how Apple buying Tidal might benefit Apple. Unfortunately he might have a problem coming up with any sort of sensible suggestion.

Apple only buys another company if it sees a clear benefit from doing so.

  2. As an Apple Shareholder I would be supremely disappointed with Tim Cook if he concluded any type of deal with the “management team and shareholders” of Tidal.

Glad the stock price is recovering if I am forced to sell my shares by a deal with those sleazy #@$%#’s.

  3. “Let the kids have the music.”
“Apple give Jay his check for Tidal now and stop trying to act like you Steve.”

I guess that Kanye West forgot to include in his tweets that he is a Tidal shareholder.

  4. If Kanye West is dissing Taylor Swift on social media, then that’s all the more reason NOT to give Tidal a dime! (not to mention all the bashing Tidal backers have giving Apple)

Tidal is dead, there’s nothing here for Apple.

  5. I actually thought buying Tidal sounded like a really solid strategy that would further push artists to publicly support Apple Music. I also thought it would help Apple get the cool factor associated with Apple Music.

But after this desperate tweet for help, it’s apparent waiting Tidal out will suffice. Kanye West literally just told the world that Tidal wasn’t making any money. If it were, he’d be acting hard and acting like Apple Music better watch out for the up and coming Tidal. Neither are true. Thanks for clearing up the value debate, Kanye. You’re an imbecile.
