Apple celebrates sale of one billion iPhones

At an employee meeting in Cupertino today, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that the company had recently sold the billionth iPhone.

“iPhone has become one of the most important, world-changing and successful products in history. It’s become more than a constant companion. iPhone is truly an essential part of our daily life and enables much of what we do throughout the day,” said Cook. “Last week we passed another major milestone when we sold the billionth iPhone. We never set out to make the most, but we’ve always set out to make the best products that make a difference. Thank you to everyone at Apple for helping change the world every day.”

Every once in a while a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything. It’s very fortunate if you can work on just one of these in your career. … Apple’s been very fortunate in that it’s introduced a few of these. — Steve Jobs

  1. the bigger the installed base the larger the services revenue as well.

(iPhones have good resale vale and last a long time so instead of gracing a drawer when old they get reused. I suspect installed base of Macs and iOS devices is larger than sales numbers suggest which is good for services revenue).

  2. Only a billion iPhones sold? Our Milky Way galaxy has far more stars. Let’s downgrade Apple for having less iPhones than there are stars in our galaxy. What’s even worse is there are about 900 million Big Macs sold around the globe every year so Apple better stop slacking off and sell a lot more iPhones. How many Android smartphones are sold each year? A couple of billion? Those are the type of numbers Wall Street wants to see from Apple.

  3. Nah, it’s only 999,999,999. I know for a fact one was returned last week. After two weeks of struggling to sync a new iPhone SE, two unanswered e-mail support requests (We will be in touch within two days, so they say), he just took it back under Apples no questions two week return policy. Thank God for that.

In frustration, he sent a complaint to Tim Cook. He got a response from the Executive Support Team. “You should submit a e-mail support request.” Maybe Apple doesn’t have the right stuff to support a billion iPhones.

    1. He should have just taken it back in the first place and not dicked around for two weeks if he didn’t get it taken care of over the phone. Maybe some people were just meant to use Androids.

  4. They are doing something right, and no mistake. Roadways crumble before the crunch of their advance. Jealousy poisons the air with the scent of eau de resentment. Trolls find gainful employment by smearing them. Stock markets reel from intrigues instigated against them.

I miss the days when they were merely insignificant, and fun.

  5. People passionately jealous with Apple, their jealous faces are showing on CNBC red hot, by looking at their faces while bashing Apple were very scary, horrible. Instead of jealousy, they should you their negative energy to innovate a usualful products that people needed and wanted, so they could make billion dollars.
