On July 20, 2016, the Lake County, Illinois Sheriff’s Office obtained information that an organized criminal enterprise from New York was attempting to make fraudulent purchases at various Apple stores in the Chicago area. Further investigation revealed the offenders involved were using stolen identities and stolen credit card numbers of victims throughout the United States, to make the purchases.
Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives began an immediate investigation. Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives along with Lake County Sheriff’s Office Highway Patrol Deputies began conducting increased patrols and surveillance at the Deer Park Apple retail store.
On July 20, 2016, Nicole E. Cannon, 21, of New York, New York, attempted to purchase Apple products at the Deer Park Apple store with a fraudulent identity and counterfeit credit cards.
On July 22, 2016, Gisselle Diaz, 41, of Elmhurst, New York, also attempted to purchase Apple products at the Deer Park Apple store with a fraudulent identity.
On July 24, 2016, the following individuals were all involved in attempting to fraudulently purchase Apple products at the Deer Park Apple store:
Corbett Ortiz, 26, of New York, New York
Quintin Ortiz, 18, of Bronx, New York
Melinda Aquino, 21, of Bronx, New York
Frank Aulet, 20, of Bronx, New York
During the investigation, Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives successfully recovered over $10,000.00 worth of stolen Apple products from the offenders.
All of the above individuals were arrested by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and subsequently charged with:
Cannon:
• Burglary (Class 2 Felony)
• Possession of a Counterfeit Credit Card (Class 3 Felony)
• Use of a Counterfeit Credit Card (Class 3 Felony)
• Unlawful Use of a Fraudulent ID to Commit Theft (Class 3 Felony)
• Identity Theft (Class 3 Felony)
• Forgery (Class 3 Felony)
Cannon is currently being held at the Lake County Jail on $125,000.00 bail. Her next court date is August 17, 2016, at 1:30PM in courtroom C-120.
Diaz:
• Retail Theft (Class 2 Felony)
• Identity Theft (Class 2 Felony)
• Burglary (Class 2 Felony)
Diaz is currently being held at the Lake County Jail on $75,000.00 bail. Her next court date is July 28, 2016, at 1:30PM in courtroom C-120.

Sheriff Curran reminds the public that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Agreed, but until the punishment is actually a deterrent it will continue. The US prison system is camp for many of these folks. Better living conditions, healthcare, food, amenities, and social conditions then they live in. The side that says then fix the poor and uneducated, and it will stop are ignorant. We as a society keep giving them everything for free and they continue and don’t change because they won’t work, won’t educate themselves and don’t care if they live in poor environments. They just don’t care and have no real desire to change. Just keep multiplying and get more free stuff. They don’t care about their kids, society or environmental issues. They polute the world and society in every way and give a shit less.
They will destroy it all but those Political groups will keep the system the same so they can keep their votes and stay in power and on the bench. It’s modern day slavery and the people don’t care or are too damn stupid to see that.
Agree, but this is where we come in. As a citizen truly concerned for where the country is going and what kind of nation your children and grandchildren will have to endure in the future, we must grab on to the coat tails of our elected representatives and voice our concerns and they MUST listen – they must or face the ultimate alternative – a recall. We, the citizens, will get our way if we have to force it! That is our civic duty.
We need a new system and not just another system for types like this. No more Mr. Nice guy as someone being too nice has turned out to be an enabler of this behavior. Need to turn the clock back and incorporate some of the old ways along with some new. Doing time is not “time out” like mommy used to dole out when you were a kid – it’s punishment for a crime – you’re DOING time for offending not only the victims but society itself!
These seem to be non-violent offenders but offenders nontheless and deserving of correction. Identity theft and financial fraud is a huge problem today and has to be stopped. If you have been a victim of this crime it’s not an easy thing to recover from and the consequences will repeatedly haunt you for years afterwards and at the worst of times. Not deserving of maximum security incarceration they should be made to better themselves, I should say – FORCED to better themselves. I have a good idea that completely changed my outlook and my “self-imposed sentence” only lasted for about 13 weeks but I was a better man for it afterwards and leared much about myself.
2 year mandatory sentence for these types in a boot camp and I mean a boot camp a la Vietnam era style. Or, if any of the readers are acquainted with the term Charlie’s Chicken Farm (CCF) something along those lines. I was “entertained” as being selected to be a CCF Instructor at this military facility for 90 days and then got extended by my command for another 90 days twice in a row! We forced some serious discipline – PT and D&C on our little petty-a$$ miliary brat-like offenders starting at 0500 daily and work was manual labor all day long! You worked the entire day a bit sore from the morning’s PT and obstacle course until your body adjusted, if it ever did, or until your punishment was completed usually 14-30 days . Just put an electronic tracker on the ankles of these little jacka$$es, process them into boot camp, put em on a bus, issue a sling blade and various gardening tools and off to the highway mediums you go and cut grass 8 hours per day M-W-F! T-Th-Sa is devoted to counseling, educational/vocational training of their choice (availability of courses will be State determed). A contractor will pay you minimum wage for your labor and with this money 50% will go back into the institution that imprisons you and the rest will be used to pay for your education and what is left over you will pay restitution to the party you offended by a factor of 5 times the cost of the items – maximum $10K! Cause a problem on the job or school site and it’s a month added on to your sentence and the day’s pay will go to the prison. Screw up and you’ll be dealt with physically! All of this will be mandatory as there will be no sitting around in a locked cell, chilling out, eating 3 squares and lifting weights at the expense of society only to be dumped back into society more angry and in a worse condition compared to your arrival – only more physically fit to committ more crimes! All of this will be done under the most strict “boot camp” conditions under the careful discipline and direction of former Marine/Army Drill Instructors who are paid handsomely and unleashed on your undisciplined backside every day! 0500 first call, area maintenance, physical training, meal time, formation for accountability, transportation to the work sites. MRE for lunch! At the end of the wor day, reverse the activities given the same military style treatment. Lights out at 2100-2200 and repeat the cycle every single day. Open bays, open showers for 9 pax and cattle trucks for transportation. What a life for 2 years!
I’m telling you, I endured this for about 13 weeks, by my own choice, lost about 25lbs and it changed my attitude and will change the attitudes of most people who endure it. I’d allow for 1 repeat performance at this type of facility and if any problems arose, off to a more deserving institution that will make you suffer more for your inability to control yourself. Again, this ain’t for the violent big-time felony criminal offenders but can be used for all sorts of low-level crimes.
As for murderers, those who committ child and elderly rape and those who committ armed robbery, I have only 1 solution: Firing squad followed by cremation. It’s also cheap on the economy. Sorry but we must clean up our society or suffer for our own inaction subjecting our children to a more criminal and violent world. PC has run its course and is out of time and surely we are rapidly running out of patience. More love is not the answer. We’re NOT in need of some Yale or Harvard educated elite to tell us what is best for society. Knowledge of basic right and wrong is hard-wired into our DNA and even toddlers seem to have a more elevated sense of understanding this compared to some Ivy League graduates and politicians. We’re “loving the sinner and hating the sin” all the way to anarachy in some areas. Time for a massive change!
Trying to accomplish the aforementioned criminal activities in my home and I’ll confront you with 45 reasons as to why this will be your last attempt at it!
