Apple Watch 2 release date, news, features, apps and specs: Apple Watch sales healthier than thought

“Sales of the Apple Watch appear to be healthy despite rumours of a forthcoming Apple Watch 2, slated for September,” ITPro reports. “According to figures by Swiss Bank UBS, the device sold 1.7 million units in the quarter to June. An increase of 100,000 over the previous quarter. The bank forecasts that Apple Watch sales could reach two million by September’s quarter, making a total of 10 million watches sold in the 2016 fiscal year.”

“In a report by MacRumors, sales of the watch have been steady while the wait for a new models edges further into the distant future,” ITPro reports. “A new Apple Watch could be launched in September alongside the long-awaited Apple iPhone 7. Such a device could sport a FaceTime video camera, more Wi-Fi capabilities and mobile connectivity.”

“The Apple Watch 2 may feature a selfie camera alongside another lens, if a freshly filed patent is any guide,” ITPro reports. “The dual camera set-up was revealed by Patently Apple, which quoted the relevant patent – 20160174025 – as saying: ‘The camera can be disposed on the front surface of Apple Watch face to capture images of the user.'”

MacDailyNews Take: We’re not convinced Apple Watch 2 will get a camera for FaceTime or for anything else. It sounds great on paper, but nostril shots, tiny displays, and security concerns (think Apple Watch use in the enterprise and government) make a camera-equipped Apple Watch less than desirable.

    1. no click for me. There is absolutely no reason to think there will be a new Apple watch this Fall. In fact, the watchOS 3 demo’d implies to me that this new software is meant to carry the current Watch well into 2017.

  1. I have seen one Apple Watch worn….ever. I have met only one Apple Warch owner…ever. Where are these millions and millions of Apple Watch owners? Hiding in shame? Or are these numbers of Apple Watch owners pure exaggeration and foolishness?
