Apple should capitalize on how Taylor Swift and other celebs are using Notes on their iPhones

“In the last year or so, a bunch of celebrities have made public statements by sharing from the Notes app on their iPhones,” Oscar Raymundo writes for Macworld. “Taylor Swift did it most recently, but previously other young stars like Ariana Grande, Amy Schumer, and Demi Lovato gave us a piece of their mind by posting a screenshot of one of their Notes on Twitter or Instagram (or both simultaneously because they’re that social-savvy).”

“It’s surprising how popular the Notes app seems to be among these famous over-sharers,” Raymundo writes, “especially considering Apple has made it surprisingly cumbersome to share your Notes with the world.”

“Obviously, there’s a need for Notes to be better integrated with social media,” Raymundo writes. “Apple could make this process more effortless if it were to include an sharing option that would treat our Notes more like photos, rather than text. This new Notes sharing feature could work similarly to Instapaper’s Tweetshots.”

MacDailyNews Take: Excellent idea and one Apple could easily, and should, implement with their very next Notes update.

    1. That is exactly the point of the article. Taking a screenshot and sharing it takes some six steps, four of which could be eliminated if Apple wanted to make it simple.

The more important point here is that the whole issue arises from the desire to “cheat@ around the twitter’s 120-character limitation. The medium limits your message length by design. If you need to be long-winded, you really need to use a more appropriate medium, such as Facebook.

    1. Umm, yeah… I’m not sure what these people are talking about here… Notes has a “Share” button that guess what, can be shared to Twitter or FaceBook or any other social media site you have an extension for.

  1. MDN readers:
I don’t have a Favebook or Google account. Could one of you copy and paste my response to the author of the article on the Macworld site? I find it difficult to believe this guy writes for Macworld. Thanks!

“Obviously, there’s a need for Notes to be better integrated with social media”. Are you even serious? I thought this must be an article written for April fool’s day.

Sharing via Facebook and Twitter IS ALREADY INTEGRATED INTO NOTES:

    1. Type a note
    2. Tap the sharing icon at the bottom of the screen
    3. Select your sharing option: Mail, Messages, Facebook, or Twitter
    4. Tap the Send button

And if what you’re trying to complain about is Twitter’s 140-character limit, then why aren’t you writing a Debbie Downer rant about Twitter (not Apple)?

TL; DR: FAIL (on Oscar Raymundo’s part)

    1. Resurrecting a very old thread but just saw this.

The sharing icon in Notes turns the note into text. As such, it is useless for the purpose of defeating twitter’s 120-word limit by posting a picture of the text.

Everyone here (as well as the writer of the article) knows about the sharing icon in Notes.

  2. I just wish Apple would let you share notes like Calendar; it would save a crapton of texting back and forth for my wife and I to have a common shopping/packing/honeydo list…

(and that’s not EVEN counting the different *versions* of notes I get when I switch from phone to imac to macbook, etc.
