Apple CEO Tim Cook: ‘Senseless killings this week remind us that justice is still out of reach for many’

“In light of two fatal police shootings of black men in as many days, Apple chief executive Tim Cook voiced a call for justice on Thursday, calling the recent events ‘senseless killings,'” AppleInsider reports.

“In his tweet, Cook alluded to two police shootings that left two black men dead this week,” AppleInsider reports. “On Tuesday, Alton Sterling, 37, was killed buy Baton Rouge. La., police responding to a 911 call, and yesterday Philando Castile died from wounds sustained during a routine traffic stop in Falcon Heights, Minn. Cellphone video footage from both encounters surfaced on social media and the web, sparking outrage nationwide.”

AppleInsider reports, “Cook has long been an outspoken supporter of the civil rights movement, using his status in the technology community as a platform to speak plainly about gender and race inequality.”

“A suspect who died after a standoff with Dallas police said he wanted to kill white people — especially white officers — and that he was upset about “the recent police shootings,” and that he acted alone, Dallas Police Chief David Brown told reporters Friday,” Faith Karimi and Ralph Ellis report for CNN. “The suspect eventually was killed by a bomb that authorities detonated, Brown said. ‘We saw no other option but to use our bomb robot and place a device on its extension for it to detonate where the suspect was,” Brown said. “Other options would have exposed our officers to grave danger. The suspect is deceased as a result of detonating the bomb.'”

“Five police officers were killed and seven others were injured in the ambush in Dallas that began Thursday night, officials have said, in the deadliest single incident for U.S. law enforcement since September 11, 2001. Two civilians also were injured in the shootings, the office of Dallas’ mayor has said,” Karimi and Ellis report. “Brown said an investigation into the ambush continues. ‘I’m not going to be satisfied until we’ve turned over every stone. We’ve got some level that this one suspect did do some of the shooting. But we’re not satisfied that we’ve exhausted every lead,’ he said. ‘So if there’s someone out there who’s associated with this, we will find you, we will prosecute you, and we will bring you to justice.'”

  1. Cook is a typical knee-jerk Lib. All “feelings” and no thought. Simpletons like him are part of the problem, not the solution. Stick to finding RAM for the cheapest price, Timmy.

This is what happens when blacks are falsely led to believe that they live in an even worse version of 1970s South Africa. Of course, despite immediately assuming that every black person shot by a cop was the victim of a white racist, Black Lives Matter activists were insisting we not jump to any conclusions about why 11 police officers were shot during a Black Lives Matter protest.

Mainstream media figures that propagate Black Lives Matter’s false racial narrative are responsible for this climate, and those officers blood is on their hands.

Democratic lawmakers who wear hoodies and mime the “hands up, don’t shoot gesture” on the House floor are responsible for this climate, and those officers blood is on their hands.

Black celebrities who give Black-Panther-inspired Super Bowl performances are responsible for this climate, and those officers blood is on their hands.

Well-meaning but woefully ignorant white college students who buy into and spread “white privilege” and “systemic racism” nonsense are responsible for this climate, and those officers blood is on their hands.

Ultimately, however, the tragic attack that at occurred in Dallas is on President Obama.

Rather than calling for calm after controversial shootings and standing behind law enforcement, Obama has time and time again jumped on the Black Lives Matter bandwagon, implying that police brutality against blacks is a systemic problem. Rather than accept that the police have a training problem, he choses to believe they have a “hate” problem.

Obama must choose. They can tell their Party to stop playing racial politics, call for calm, and get serious about the widespread problem of ill-prepared, under-trained officers in the field, or they can ignore those problems and continue to claim that these random and rare police shootings are a mark of systemic racism.

If they chose the latter, there will be even more blue — and black — blood on their hands.

    1. I was going to say that you should get off this board because you have nothing in common with most of us here…..and certainly nothing what so ever to do with Apple.

I was going to say that no one reads any of your long winded crap past the first couple of lines. I maybe glance a few words along the way to the end of your hate filled rants and that is enough since I have read enough of them to know what you are going to say. BUT, then again I thought why not ask you to write MORE even LONGER rants. It is better you are wasting your time on the few of us that read and write comments on this board than have you spread your hate on a wider population. Please, write some more longer rants….please.

      1. Paul. Odd. I thought leftists were tolerant of other’s views?

I hate to break it to you pal but you’re the hater here. Every post I read of yours is full of spite and bigotry.

So how about YOU get of this board, at least until you grow the f up.

    2. To be fair, police brutality against blacks is systematic problem, according to statistics. Police has killed more unarmed black people than terrorists killed on 9/11 since that time.

The issue is not limited only to race, though, as mentally ill people also get killed in great numbers, as well as poor and less powerful people overall.

      1. To be fair, black brutality against other blacks and everyone else is a systematic problem, according to statistics. Blacks kill twice as many blacks every single year than people were killed on 9/11.

        1. To be fair, I don’t pay black criminals to kill unarmed black citizens. I do pay the police to deter crime—including crime against African-Americans—and arrest criminals. I would rather _not_ pay the police for the use of unjustified force or pay lawyers to defend them and my government from the resulting lawsuits.

So, like Tim Cook and Apple, I have a direct financial interest in seeing that the police receive appropriate training to do the job appropriately. If I were black, I would have even more reasons to ensure that the police were doing what I pay them to do.

        2. “To be fair, I don’t pay black criminals to kill unarmed black citizens. I do pay the police to deter crime—including crime against African-Americans—and arrest criminals.”

Thank you! I’ve been trying to come up with a decent retort for such a specious argument.

      2. Any black person is more likely to be murdered by another black person than a white person or a cop. BlackLivesMatter is a group whose existence is based on hypocrisy, ignorance, race-baiting propaganda, extortion, and violence. Tim Cook’s knee-jerk liberal views are a sad extension of BLM’s recklessness, lies, and bigotry.

        1. More people die of heart disease than cancer, so the American Cancer Society is a scam. No group should be allowed to fight more than one social problem at a time.

  2. Cook needs to focus on Apple and not go off the deep end on the current political issues.

You know, Apple things like making quality software and products which Cook has no idea how to do without the guidance of Jobs.

    1. This movement is specifically about the terror that is inflicted on blacks by the police state, not about general crime rate.

As history tells as, police was founded as an organization to catch/kill fugitive slaves, and those deep traditions are alive in this organization to this day. Every racist that wants the ability to abuse and even, if possible, kill a black person signs to become police officer since he knows that there will be no punishment for such murder.

Of course, there are over major factors, too; but to not admit the obvious is to be intentionally blind in denial.

        1. This is what happens when self-reliance, hard work, and commitment to community are exchanged for government handouts, excuses, and ignorance. But these sad examples of human detritus aren’t half as monstrous as the Democratic party that promotes governmental policies and practices that encourage and reward these behaviors.

        2. This is social issue, not race issue. For example, long before blacks were ever stolen from Africa and brought to all-white countries, the crime rate among poor whites were always much higher than crime rates in average or, the more so, among richer whites.

  3. I wish Apple and Cook would STFU about anything other than Apple products. We don’t need yet another ivory tower multi-multi-millionaire preaching to us.

Hey Timmy, when will you stop selling nearly 3 year old technology at new technology prices? Tweet about that.

  4. Last night’s horrific execution-style shootings of 12 Dallas law enforcement officers – five of whom were killed and seven wounded- is an attack on our country. It is a coordinated, premeditated assault on the men and women who keep us safe.

We must restore law and order. We must restore the confidence of our people to be safe and secure in their homes and on the street.

The senseless, tragic deaths of two motorists in Louisiana and Minnesota reminds us how much more needs to be done.

This morning I offer my thoughts and prayers for all of the victims’ families, and we pray for our brave police officers and first responders who risk their lives to protect us every single day.

Our nation has become too divided. Too many Americans feel like they’ve lost hope. Crime is harming too many citizens. Racial tensions have gotten worse, not better. This isn’t the American Dream we all want for our children.

This is a time, perhaps more than ever, for strong leadership, love and compassion. We will pull through these tragedies. — Donald J. Trump

    1. That sure doesn’t sound like Donald talking: too many complete sentences. (Nice work, Mr. Speech Writer) I’m sure that he’ll say something stupid about this before the day is over.

      1. “That sure doesn’t sound like Donald talking.”

Because you got to read his full quote without it being truncated and strained through the leftist mainstream media filter.

        Awaken.

        1. You can’t blame leftist mediastream for what streams out of Trumps gaping mouth hole on a daily basis. Just watch him talk, at any of his events or speeches, at any point and hear it for yourself. No truncating or filtering is needed to make it sound like serial liar con-man egotistical manipulative bullshit.

A speech writer and editor might be able to make Trump sound like a descent non-delusional human being, but unedited and uncut Trump speaks for himself.

    1. Banning so-called “assault weapons” actually does nothing to address the issue of mass shootings. What is an “assault weapon,” by the way?

Enough with the incremental Liberal symbolism meant, ultimately, to usher in wide-ranging gun control.

Ask Paris, France how well severe gun control worked for them.

      1. “Assault weapon” isn’t a term made up by liberals. It’s been used by the gun press. Guns & Ammo has used the term on its cover. Gun enthusiasts want to ridicule others for using the term, but it was invented by gun enthusiasts, even if they disavow it now.

        1. Liberals think that because I own a gun I am a potential murderer. I tell you what, I will give up my firearms if you think I am a potential murderer if you will amputate your penis because you are a potential rapist and pedophile.

      2. I think the gun control issue cuts the other way.

One rather odd feature of the public reaction to all this is that both the individual who was killed in Louisiana and the one who was killed in Minnesota died—in large part—because they were bearing arms. Much of the public, including almost every Texas peace officer I know, believes that Americans have an inherent Constitutional right to possess a gun for self defense.

The Minnesota subject allegedly had a concealed carry permit, while the Louisiana subject could have carried his gun openly without a permit. If they had been the friends or relatives of the peace officers who shot them, I suspect the officers would have vehemently supported their right to carry.

Because they were armed black men unknown to the officers, they were considered to be an imminent danger and were put down without hesitation. There has been nothing to suggest—apart from the firearm issue—that the Louisiana man would have suffered more than a few days in jail for disorderly conduct or the Minnesota man would have received more than a ticket for a broken tail light. They died because they were keeping and bearing firearms, although there is no known evidence (apart from officer paranoia) to suggest an intent to use the guns for any illegal purpose.

If there is an absolute personal right for U.S. citizens to keep and bear arms freely without government infringement (I will assume for the sake of argument that there is), then the post-Civil War Amendments 13-15 require that the right may not be restricted on the basis of race or national origin.

Therefore, the NRA and all the other Second Amendment advocates should be demanding justice for two men who apparently died because they were exercising a constitutional right and were denied that right based solely on the color of their skins. Why aren’t conservatives in the forefront of this issue?

  5. So cook shares the same penchant for megalomania that Obama and many other “leaders” share. Always need an audience. Always have to chime in.

Just do your job and quit inserting yourself into every minutiae. We’ll all be just fine without hearing your take or your permission to feel how you want us to feel…dear leaders.

    Oh, and fix Siri already…ffs!

  6. 1. Please imagine for a second your mum going to the shops to get some milk after taking the kids to school. What are the odds that such a person would be shot by police???
The issue is that more blacks are involved in criminal activity than whites.
    2. Cook is simply trying to position himself as a champion of “human rights” to legitimize his homosexual cause. What he is NOT doing is campaigning against communism, which denies people ACTUAL rights such as voting.
    Hypocrite.

    1. Are you suggesting that it is more acceptable for the police to shoot innocent black men than innocent white women?

Alternatively, are you suggesting that the “right” not to be shot for no reason is not an ACTUAL right?

      1. Oh good grief.
I’m not suggesting anything of the sort. You are though.
Any intelligent person that reads my comment should be able to grasp what is implied.

My parents were good, honest, law abiding people. My wife’s parents likewise. In the course of their daily lives the sheer odds of any of them getting into a situation that resulted in them being shot by police were/are for all intents and purposes zero.
        Got all that?
        Good.
Now, compare that to the black criminals that the police encounter on a daily basis. The drug users, the drug dealers, the pimps, the car thieves. The police are not there to rescue every morally bankrupt, zero self controlled, illegitimate child that grew up not knowing right from wrong. It’s not their job.

If you still don’t understand then further explanation would be futile.

      2. I’m sorry you posted so far down the comment chain that hardly anybody is still here. I wish more people could read my response. Why? Because I was a criminal prosecutor for 30 years in a county that was reputed to be tougher on crime than any other jurisdiction in the Great State of Texas. You should not dismiss me as a bleeding-heart liberal or as unfamiliar with the realities of law enforcement.

From time to time, it was an unpleasant part of my job to call a sheriff, constable, or police chief and tell him that Officer X—who was otherwise a fine fellow—needed to be dismissed immediately. He was a loose cannon who would eventually get his boss and the county into a million-dollar lawsuit that we would lose. The fireable offense was exactly the common logical error that your comment illustrates. Tim Cook sees the gap in reasoning that many apparently do not.

Just because A implies B, it does not follow that B implies A. That means that even though some (or most) B are A, it is not safe to assume that ALL B are A. For example, even though most women are weaker than most men, Serena Williams plays better tennis than literally billions of males. The leaders of the Mafia were mostly Italian, but that does not make all Italians Wise Guys. Similarly, just because some African-Americans do illegal things that justify the use of deadly force, it is not the case that ALL African-Americans are more legitimate targets for deadly force.

Peace officers need to make use of force decisions on an individualized basis: Is this person, here and now, behaving in a way that would lead a reasonable officer to conclude that the subject presents an imminent threat of death of bodily injury? Just because other people with his skin, hair, or eye color have posed a threat in the past is not relevant to that determination. If an officer thinks that it is, he should not be carrying a gun.

Las Vegas casinos make a lot of money from people who fall for the same error. The chance of a certified roulette wheel coming up Red is 9 out of 19 every time it spins. Just because it was Red (or Black) the last five spins does not make it any more or less likely to be Red on the current spin. Any system that tries to predict the future behavior of the wheel on its past behavior will eventually fall to the house advantage guaranteed by the green 0 and 00.

Similarly, just because the last five criminals an officer encountered happened to have been African-American does not make it any more (or less) likely that the next black guy he sees is a criminal. He might be somebody just like your mum who is going to the shops to get some milk. Neither he nor she should get shot without an adequate legal basis.

Sadly, the chance of a black man in exactly that situation getting shot by police is a good deal greater than zero… because the officer who shot him makes the same logical error as you. My reading of the officer-involved shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota this last week is that policemen who would not be particularly bothered by a white man legally carrying a weapon for self defense regarded black men under exactly the same circumstances as an imminent threat. Somebody said the word “gun,” and a trigger was pulled immediately and repeatedly, when a white suspect would have received the benefit of the doubt.

Shooting someone (or even arresting them) requires probable cause to believe that this particular person deserves it. In America and the United Kingdom, labeling someone as a criminal requires conviction of that particular individual in a courtroom on the basis of legally admissible evidence that proves, beyond a reasonable doubt, that every element of a statutory offense is present. Any peace officer who treats somebody as more likely to be a criminal on the basis of his race is a public menace and a lawsuit waiting to happen.

If you don’t understand that, then I agree that further explanation would be futile.

        1. That is fantastically worded and elegantly said. The simple fact that people defending officers who perform these kind of actions cannot recognize their own inherent biases is very difficult to explain, and is some type of cognitive dissonance. Having to deal with this on a daily basis as I said in another thread, it is very hard to explain to people who do not go through the same experience, and who are willfully ignorant/dismissive of the greater issue at hand. Also refusing to accept any alternate viewpoint that conflicts with their own pre rendered or supposed ideas on a subject.

I mentioned on a another thread as well that when these two innocent men were murdered, there was an immediate attempt in the media to demonize them to a certain extent and brand them as criminals. The man in Baton Rouge did have a criminal record, however he had been straight for 15 years and was doing nothing wrong, and certainly nothing that warranted being shot multiple times in the chest. The man in Minnesota was a law abiding licensed to carry citizen, who was stopped for a broken tail light and was in no way a threat to anyone. As evidenced in the video, the officer asked the man for his license after he informed him of his firearm in the vehicle. As soon as he reached into his back pocket for the license, the officer shot him multiple times unprompted and for no reason. Then the officer and his parter made the driver, and filmed of the video step out of the car with her hands up as if she did something wrong.

This unfortunealty is very routine all over the United States, especially when it comes to traffic stops of black men like my partner. I cannot tell you how many times we have been in situations where an officer is needlessly aggressive, has his firearm drawn even before approaching the vehicle and asking for registration and license, and then having myself or my partner pass our license through a small crack in the partially rolled down window. The officer will then attempt to intimidate both of us for no reason, and on several occasions we have gone to court and had PA state cops reprimanded for behavior such as this. We are lucky, my family is well off and because of my job and status in the community I and my family both are very well politically connected, and can afford good attorneys who help these problems go away. Being that we are a mixed race couple, and gay, it’s even worse than you can possibly imagine. Although in your case I’m certain you have seen many instances of what I’m describing.

Yet when I relay these stories I am always met with “well you’re ok, you can use the system and win”. That is not the point… This should not happen in the first place, and no one should have to have immense resources or connections to simply exercise their right to be treated as a human being. Conversely the shootings of the officers in Dallas was met with immediate concern and outpouring in the media, and it was indeed a horrific and tragic event that never should’ve taken place. However, where was the same level of outrage when two innocent men were murdered two days prior?

As I’very said before, we need to have a serious discussion of race, and how these relations have been bad for quite some time. Now that almost everyone has a mobile phone with a video camera on it, people can now see what we have been talking about for years on end. And I believe it’s shaking them to their core. Yet some dig in and somehow blame our president for these problems, when in fact they have been systemic for decades and centuries in some cases. And now that there is persistent video proof people are starting to realize that there is indeed a sever problem. Hopefully we can have a real discussion and make some much needed changes going forward.

  7. Good luck getting racial equality, Tim, racial inequality is part of your nation’s DNA (Destructive Nuclear Arsenal), it’s written in your original constitution. No coffee is strong enough to wake up your nation to its war addiction. You’ve been at war since the inception of your fifth rate nation, and just to be safe, had slavery written in the constitution for good measure.

It’s understandable therefore that the media is playing this up, it’s an election year and you are on a break from inflicting yourself upon the rest of the world so that you can inflict yourselves upon yourselves to keep the hate and fear going.

“Senseless killings this week remind us that justice is still out of reach for many,” Cook said. “We can and must do better.”

You are right Tim, there are those in your nation that are above justice, above the law, hey they could even commit war crimes against humanity, introduce torture and still retire on a nice ranch.

You personally can do better, but good lucking changing your nation’s behavior and outlook. An alternative would be to move your headquarters to the free and civilized world where justice is brought to the many.

Meanwhile it is fortunate that no citizens of the free and civilized world were harmed in these attacks.

    1. Tim Cook is a pandering bastard who is more than willing to promote the lies, fear mongering, and dissemblance which are the foundation of modern liberalism. Coaching his words with terms like justice and fairness, while castigating the majority of cops who are respectable professionals. You are a disgusting piece of filth, Cook.

      1. See above comment on logical errors. “Some A are B” is not the same as “All A are B.” “Some peace officers use excessive force” is not the same as “All peace officers use excessive force.” Pointing out a few bad apples is not “castigating the majority of cops who are respectable professionals.” Eliminating the bad apples will enhance the reputation of the majority, and should not harm it with those who can distinguish criminals—of whatever color or profession—from law-abiding citizens.

        1. That’s why we have a court system to determine guilt. Unfortunately, Tim Cook’s poor worded or deliberately worded comments only fan the flames of anger and resentment. Tim Cook stepped in another pile of shit, again. He’s another useful idiot of the left.

        2. The guys who were shot would have appreciated access to the court system, I am sure. Since they have been silenced, who is to speak for them? I was not aware that calling for due process and equal protection was an idiot left-wing issue. Supporting the Constitution and questioning overreach by government agents seem like core conservative values to me!

    1. You mean, ruined it for you. Truth hurts, huh? You want leftist lies, politicization of senseless deaths in the name of the “gun control” fantasies, Hillary the Crook fro Prez, etc..? Go on over to MSNBC.com.

      1. Like 20whatever, both big talking pussies that hid behind your computer screen. If you spoke to people in real life like that, you’d get your ass kicked daily
