Apple’s rumored iPhone 8 OLED swap could boost Advanced Energy Industries

“Advanced Energy Industries‘ (AEIS) organic light-emitting diode (OLED) exposure is minimal, a Needham analyst said Tuesday, meaning Apple‘s (AAPL) rumored decision to swap out LCD screens in the iPhone 8 could have minimal impact on small-cap chip gear maker AES,” Allison Gatlin reports for Investor’s Business Daily.

“Needham analyst Y. Edwin Mok’s report follows Pacific Crest’s view last week that Advanced Energy could join Applied Materials (AMAT) and MKS Instruments (MKSI) in riding Apple’s reported OLED wave,” Gatlin reports. “OLED screens are thinner, more flexible and allow for greater color saturation.”

“Applied Materials is Advanced Energy’s singular OLED customer, Mok wrote,” Gatlin reports. “‘FPD has historically represented less than 10% of ex-inverter revenue, and in the best years FPD revenue only reached $30 million,’ he wrote in a research report. ‘Therefore, OLED investment could drive some incremental business for AE.'”
