Nomura: Sony is behind on Apple’s iPhone 7 schedule, raises LG Innotek to buy

“Earlier today, I wrote that Citi Research now thinks all the new 5.5-inch iPhones coming this fall will have dual cameras, contrary to the street’s prediction that the new iPhone 7 will come in two models, one with dual camera and one without,” Shuli Ren reports for Barorn’s.

“Well, the street is moving over,” Ren reports. “Nomura Securities this morning also said ‘the dual camera will be used in all new 5.5-inch iPhones.'”

“Korea’s LG Innotek competes with Japan’s Sony as a camera module assembler,” Ren reports. “Nomura’s Chris Chang thinks Sony is now behind schedule, which means that Apple will have to go to LG Innotek for assembly.”

MacDailyNews Take: So, the general consensus in rumorland is that well see three next-gen iPhones this fall. In ascending order of price/features/display size:

• iPhone 7 (maybe just called “iPhone”)
• iPhone 7 Plus (maybe just called “iPhone Plus”)
• iPhone 7 Pro (maybe just called “iPhone Pro”)

  1. I think they should just start calling them iPhones (plus/c/pro variations) and then older models just get referred to by their launch date/internal model number the same way Macs do.
