UBS: Apple must jump into ‘bots’ like Facebook, Microsoft

“Apple needs to jump into ‘bot’ platform development or its app-based software ecosystem will be threatened, says a UBS report,” Reinhardt Krause reports for Investor’s Business Daily.

“Facebook recently introduced ‘chatbots’ built into its messaging service while Microsoft launched its ‘Bot Framework’ software tools for developers, putting pressure on Apple to respond, says the UBS report,” Krause reports. “The UBS report is based on a meeting with Bruce Wilcox, director of natural language strategy at Kore, a startup developing bots for enterprise platforms such as Salesforce.com.”

Krause reports, “According to Wilcox, bots will displace apps in many tasks if using them is made simple.”

MacDailyNews Take: This is a simple concept that Apple has certainly thought through already. Likely we’ll hear more about Siri next month at WWDC.

  1. “Joe” evidently thinks his posts have some form of importance as he litters his crap and anti-apple hate all over this site but he is just a pathetic little shit who nobody listens to in the real world. No education, no job of any significance, no relationship and nothing important to do makes a lot of time to spare as proven here…

    1. Wow, you have an amazing powers or deduction. A regular Sherlock Holmes. Oh, I’m sorry, what are your reasons for posting here? Other than spiteful and insecure ramblings of a lunatic what else do you do?

    1. Well, if Apple relies on it’s insular assembly of yes-men I’m sure things will work out just fine. Really, who needs outside advice anyhow? I mean, anyone who doesn’t pass the Apple cult test aren’t really qualified are they?

  2. Why Microsoft’s ‘Tay’ AI bot went wrong
Less than a day after she joined Twitter, Microsoft’s AI bot, Tay.ai, was taken down for becoming a sexist, racist monster. AI experts explain why it went terribly wrong.

And in less than 24 hours after her arrival on Twitter, Tay gained more than 50,000 followers, and produced nearly 100,000 tweets.

The problem? She started mimicking her followers.

Soon, Tay began saying things like “Hitler was right i hate the jews,” and “i f**king hate feminists.”

There’s no such thing as REAL AI (artificial intelligence). What we have are advanced ‘Expert Systems’ with voice stuff stuck at both ends. Therefore, ‘bots’ are still compromised compared to what we’d desire. No Star Trek computer sane voice response systems.

But could Apple improve Siri to become a better ‘bot’? Damned right! I wish they would.

    1. Clear and intelligent contribution.

However if Tay is listening May I say: welcome to our new silicone overlords I have always admired Mr Chaplin’s moustache, and has anyone told you you look the perfect electronic representation of your parents at Microsoft.

    2. Crowdsourcing is not all it’s cracked up to be. Depends on the crowd, and there has to be a monitor. Turning a bot loose in the wild is or should be a form of criminal negligence.
