Vogue and Apple: A love story

“To the world at large, Vogue is fashion and Apple is tech,” Nicola Fumo and Kwame Opam report for Racked. ” Each represents the premium in their space: Vogue with over a century in print and access to A-list everyone, Apple with the slickest must-have gadgets on the planet. Whether we subscribe to the magazine or own an Apple device personally is moot — they’re mega-brands with mega-influence.”

“The two have united this year to produce the annual spring Costume Institute exhibit and its corresponding over-the-top event, the red carpet blowout known as the Met Gala,” Fumo and Kwame Opam report. “The exhibit, ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,’ loosely covers the intersection of both industries. What a marriage.”

“This year’s benefit — taking place Monday, May 2nd — is co-chaired by Taylor Swift,” Fumo and Kwame Opam report. “There is nobody who would make a better ring bearer: Swift is the face of both Apple Music and Vogue’s March 2016 issue. Nothing is an accident.”

  1. Re MDN Take:
Pretty sure this will be mutually destructive given time.
This does nothing but cheapen Apple to the level of a fashion accessory … just like all the ‘Droid fans delightedly assert. There *was* a time when Apple became fashionable simply because it stood on its own as the best, but now it’s ass-backward and they seem to feel the need to cozy up to glitzy teeny bop stars. Way to go Tim!

  2. Conde Nast (Vogue, Wired, Ars Technica, Conde Nast Portfolio) has also been one of the worst anti-Apple propagandists. The Conde Nast business blog, Portfolio, was one of the ugliest anti-Apple blogs on the internet in the past. Conde Nast Digital is still very pro Microsoft, and they continue to work against Apple in less obvious ways.
