“Months after opening up its SDK for tvOS, ad network AppLovin has decided to take a more active role in bringing developers to the Apple TV platform by hosting its very own large-scale hackathon,” Lauren Hockenson reports for TNW.
“The two-day AppLovin App Challenge will be held on April 16 and 17 in San Francisco and offer more than to $40,000 in prizes for the winning and runner-up teams,” Hockenson reports. “The the big stakes are in the $25,000 contest that invites developers interested in creating an app in any category to submit their app by the end of March and potentially showcase it onstage in front of the judges.”
“Day-long hackathon participants can compete for two winning spots and earn $5,000 each,” Hockenson reports. “Learn more about the event, including how to register, on its new landing page.”

MacDailyNews Take: Appel TV already has at least one “killer app.” The new third-party Apple TV app, Channels ($15), lets users watch live TV through a SiliconDust HDHomeRun networked tuner. HDHomeRun receives video from any broadcast antenna and is connected to a Wi-Fi router. Using the Channels app, users can stream live TV on various devices throughout Wi-Fi network.
Channels is available via the new Apple TV App Store. Just search for “Channels” to find and download it.

One simple question: Where is the Amazon Prime Video app? It’s omission makes the Apple TV *very hard* to recommend.
Well, that’s your opinion. Frankly, I don’t see a need for Amazon but to each his own. The bigger question… Why aren’t you asking Amazon where THEIR app is for Apple TV?
Amazon has a bunch of terrific shows on Prime. And it takes two to tangle…
I would suggest you get a Fire TV or Roku box.
Then, learn how to dance.
Hang on you have no evidence whosoever that its omission has anything to do with Apple. Far more likely that Amazon is trying to push its own devices to potential buyers by taking the Apple option out of the equation at least till they are established. Apple really needs to get in on the programming side as a result.
Ask Amazon why they stopped selling the Apple TV and you’ll probably have your answer.
Is anyone out there using the SiliconDust with EyeTV on their Mac and having recorded shows dropped into iTunes.
Then the AppleTV pulls via Home Sharing from that Mac. It appears to be perfect on paper but would like to hear from users that have tried it.
Tried for hours but either El Capitan crashed or nothing ever appeared in the target folder in iTunes. 0/10
