“Apple could soon move more of its apps to Android, a move that could put encrypted messaging into the hands of the wider mainstream public,” Zack Whittaker reports for ZDNet. “Until Apple Music’s debut on the Google Play store last year, Apple’s services were almost exclusive for its iPhones, iPads, and Macs, with few exceptions (notably iCloud on Windows). ”
“What many don’t realize is that iMessage is encrypted end-to-end, which prevents even Apple from accessing user messages,” Whittaker reports. “Apple rolled out the new privacy feature in iOS 8.”
Whittaker reports, “It’s not clear when (or even if) Apple will make the move any time soon. In bringing iMessage out from Apple’s exclusivity, it could could open up the encrypted messaging app to as many as one billion Android device owners.”

Not sure that is the best idea. The government already is targeting encryption…this will just make is worse!
Encrypt or not to encrypt… Thats the question…. And it is not an easy question to answer. Stakes are beyond idealism .

No don’t give Google anything.
The App would have to be ROCK SOLID on Android. All it takes is a carefully crafted malicious App to TAP your supposed secure messages and your entire message history is compromised.
I’d be surprised if it ran on anything but the latest version of Android, which is probably about 10,000. 😜
When they first announced iMessage they said it would be an open source platform. This might finally make that true.
