“‘Offering Mac is key for any modern enterprise,’ Thomas Saueressig, SVP, Global Head of IT Services, SAP says on Apple’s recently updated Mac in Business Website, and there’s plenty of evidence that proves this case,” Jonny Evans writes for Computerworld.
“It’s a shift we’ve been hearing about for months – think about Bloomberg’s recent admission that ‘More than 75 percent of all users are accessing the Bloomberg Professional app on Apple products,'” Evans writes. “Who are those users? C-class executives who get to make platform decisions.”
“Those users are already thinking on the biggest Mac endorsement we heard last year, when IBM said it saves $270 per Mac in comparison to PC support costs – just 5 percent of Mac users needing any help at all,” Evans writes. “The bad for business Microsoft monoculture [is] gone forever. Apple’s enterprise business now represents $25 billion in annual revenue, up more than 40 percent year over year. These days, 96 percent of companies support Apple while 64 percent of IT pros surveyed by JAMF Software claim the Mac is ‘easier to manage than other computer platforms.’ A further 78 percent see the iPhone and iPad as ‘easier to manage than other mobile device platforms.'”

Hey MDN, the witch is not dead. The witch is just hanging with a bunch of trolls (IT doofuses) who protect her from users who want to move into the 21s Century. Until these trolls die or go into a more appropriate profession like garbage-collector, many of us are still stuck in the dark ages.

We’ve been a Mac based construction company for over 25 years. I guess the rest of the world is finally catching on. Took them long enough!

We have had a decade of engineering, CS and business graduates who have accelerated their learning through school and came into business with their Apple Mac preference.
And can we see what IBM and Apple are doing now with their convergence?

We have macs, iPads and iphones deployed along with Windows PCs. One of our lines of business is all macs, they were like that when we bought them.
For us the only hangup is legacy software layers. That situation improves each year as we update old systems and virtualize some but we still have a lot that depends on windows.
Microsoft themselves are doing more to support non-MS tech. Especially when it comes to running Windows server. They recognize that not every client is going to be a windows device.
The world is changing in and even MS sees it.
Support costs go up if you have to support Windows apps with something like parallels.
Most businesses will find they need Parallels to run actual business apps, which are rare in the OS/X environment.
SAP software really, really sucks.
If you use it, you know what I’m talking about.
I have a buddy on the opposite side of the political spectrum as me. We disagree on about almost everything. But he uses SAP, too. There is one thing that we agree on wholeheartedly: SAP sucks!
