“Apple is planning to introduce new iPad hardware at an event in mid-March, according to sources, with the most likely device being a new iPad Air,” Mark Gurman reports for 9to5Mac.
“This new iPad with a 9.7-inch screen, presumably to be called the ‘iPad Air 3,’ will be launched alongside the a new 4-inch iPhone known as the ‘iPhone 5se’ and a series of new Apple Watch [bands],” Gurman reports. “Apple is currently planning to hold its keynote during the week of March 14th, but the final date is still in flux, according to sources… Apple has also been testing versions of the 9.7-inch iPad panel that are compatible with the Apple Pencil, according to sources.”
Appel will reveal “multiple new colors for the rubber Sport Bands, additional colors for the line of Hermes bands, a black version of the Milanese Loop, and an additional band line made out of a new material,” Gurman reports. “Apple is likely preparing to also release a pair of operating system software updates soon after the event to complement the aforementioned hardware updates: iOS 9.3 with Night Shift for the ‘iPhone 5se’ and ‘iPad Air 3’ plus WatchOS 2.2 with the new Maps app for the new Apple Watch models.”

MacDailyNews Take: iPad Air 3. Better late than never! Hopefully the beast will indeed support Apple Pencil.
Still holding out hope for those Apple smartbands (a GPS band would really be useful on a run; not wanting to cart around an iPhone), but that hope is fading fast as these sound like only cosmetic additions to Apple Watch bands. Oh well, maybe for Apple Watch 2?

Those were tied to Macworld Expo though. Once Apple got big enough I don’t blame them for moving away from it… too much pressure by a third party’s deadline to have deliverables available just weeks after Christmas.
Apple likely to debut iPad Air 3 and I will have Apple ringing the register. I’ve actually been using my iPad from 2010. Up until recently I’ve thought it to be usable. Battery life is okay. My major issue is Safari constantly crashes on any website (not related to today’s news). Also a lot of apps (for a long time now) have not supported the old iOS. I am NOW ready for a new iPad. (I know I am going to upset a lot of people by saying this – but I LIKE the 3D look of the icons.) Still using Mavericks – mostly because it works. No doubt after using the flat iOS for a while will convince me to upgrade to the newest OS X.
I do think they running out of ideas. Save jobs always bringed surprises, nowadays it,s more screens sizes and colours with numbers changes or letters. Change at least the menu.
Why is it that people who want a 4″ screen iPhone are thought of as ‘unworthy’ of the latest tech ?
Wanting a small divice with all the functionality of the 6s ( and hopefully a longer battery life) is not just for the ‘dumb contract phone market’
I agree. My wife had a 4S and is now on a 5S. She is looking to get a new phone and feels that the 6 is too big for her. If she want’s a bigger screen she takes out her iPad mini. She felt the standard iPad was too big and heavy as well.
My boss was happy with his 5 and went with a 6 when they came out. He was hesitant to get the 6 because of the size.
Personally, I was surprised that they didn’t make a larger phone sooner and kept a smaller phone as well.
Why would you want a phone with a smaller screen? I used an iPod touch, fourth generation, a few weeks ago. I have to tell you, I felt clostrophobic. The screen was way too small. I, being blind, could barely deal with having to do something as resetting them. I don’t see how sighted folks could even read from such a small screen. After dabling in the arcane arts of iOS 6, I was happy to be back on my lovely iPhone 6.

My wish list:
– For me: MacBook Pro 15 inch with 2 TB SSD (or even more) and 32 GB of RAM plus 4 GB graphic card and the ability to connect a 5k Cinema Display.
– 5k Cinema Display, of course
– For my beloved wife: 4 inch iPhone 6 or 6s, with A8 or even better A9. First class technology at a first class price.
If the iPad Air 3 somehow ends up with 3-D Touch, I’ll upgrade from my recently upgraded Air 2. Otherwise, I guess I’ll wait until the 3-D Touch is available.
