MacDailyNews Take: Real or fake?

    1. I always figure these are from Apple. After all, if you admit that something is going to leak anyway, best to leak on your own terms.

In this case the leak serves Apple by telling the world this won’t be plastic, or in crazy colors. Therefore it tells everyone above the age of 17 that they may as well hold out for a classy 6e, whereas they may have figured it would be plastic and already be settling for something else.

The timing is perfect — not too close to Christmas, but well in advance of the debut to prep people who want this one. Also a week before earnings, getting people to look ahead to what’s coming.

I say 90% likelihood this is the phone, and 90% likelihood this is Apple’s handiwork.

  1. If this is real (and it looks real to me), then note that the 3.5mm headphone jack still exists (bottom left). If this is just an NBA giant holding a normal-sized iPhone, then I wonder why anyone would bother doing so.

  2. And the most likely “this isn’t real” explanation is that this is one of the dozens of practically identical knock-offs that exist all over China. Outside appearance is practically identical to the iPhone, and when you power it up, the boot image is the white Apple logo, and the lock screen looks the same. Once you unlock, however, it starts to differ, and after opening the first few apps, you realise you’re in the Android hell…

  3. Well if this is real, its rather uninventive isn’t it, just a reduced size version of the present design with the same old dated overhangs top and bottom as the last time Apple built that size phone… and indeed the present ones. Which itself would mean either the iPhone 7 is going to be yet another minor variation on the same theme, or the larger ones, when they are launched probably a little later, will look different and thus not only be out of keeping but will make this one look positively old fashioned.

From my perspective if you want a 4inch phone you want it as compact as possible and this certainly isn’t that even it at least looks like a quality phone… just 2 years old.

  4. Real or Not – I could careless. Totally uninterested in Apple making smaller iPhones again. The 6s and 6s Plus are fantastic sized devices… still wish iPad Mini was a capable phone too – if so it would be mine choice. Apple needs to get better with converging it’s products. Seriously, is there any need for these categories, iPad, iPad mini, iPad Pro, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus.

Make four sized screens – either with cellular capabilities or not. Every device is built and spec’d to be a Pro. Best processor available highest ram. Anything lower its called a economical build and proved cheaper.

  5. Not sure if it’s real, but it is then there are going to be a lot of women (and men with smaller hands) who will go for it – my wife included.

The best part of that “sample” is that it isn’t plastic.

  6. In my not so humble opinion this is not an actual Apple product. The antennas separation bands on the back are far to thick to be legitimate. It makes the overall appearance ugly. Jonny Ive would not OK it with those.
