  1. For reasons only known to The Mighty Favog (Old SNL Baby Boomer Era Reference), Apple defaults OS X to having the Firewall Off. Turn it On unless you are running some other Firewall.
    Make sure Open Safe Files After Downloading is deselected on Safari.
    That is not all, but is a good start.
