Starbucks, KFC, and Chili’s to accept Apple Pay this year

“The coffee retailer [Starbucks] will begin accepting Apple Pay in U.S. stores this year, Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s head of payments, said Thursday at a tech conference in Half Moon Bay, California,” Douglas MacMillan reports for The Wall Street Journal. “All 7,500 U.S. coffee stores owned by Starbucks will accept Apple Pay by the end of 2016, Ms. Bailey said.”

“Apple’s service, launched a year ago at about 220,000 U.S. locations including McDonald’s and Macy’s, prompts shoppers to ditch their wallet and make purchases with an iPhone,” MacMillan reports. “More than one million stores now accept Apple Pay, a number the company predicts will grow to 1.5 million by the end of this year. In addition to Starbucks, Apple said Yum Brands Inc.’s KFC and Brinker International Inc.’s Chili’s plan to accept the payment service. An integration with Best Buy Co., that was announced earlier this year, went live in the electronics retailer’s 1,400 stores this week.”

“Ms. Bailey said retailers are beginning to customize the payment service in different ways, such as adding digital versions of loyalty cards or making it easy for restaurant customers to pay from their table, without the help of servers,” MacMillan reports. “The next big area for expansion could be travel, where consumers rely heavily on their phones for information and entertainment, Ms. Bailey said. Apple Pay could soon be used to help airline passengers order and pay for food and movies, she said.”

MacDailyNews Take: Soon, even the naysayers won’t be able to pretend Apple Pay isn’t the success it already is.

    1. Christ would NEVER drink at Starbucks. HE knows the best coffee is always served at Chick-fil-A.
I’m feeling a connection here… You and Me… Wanna go out for a cup of Holy Java?

    2. I certainly stand up for anyone who refuses to serve Christians because it’s in conflict with their beliefs, no wait a minute that would be stupid wouldn’t it, yet this buffoon seems to believe not serving others because as a Christian it conflicts with your beliefs is somehow right and normal. Gotta love the irony, if not the hypocrisy. I guess that’s the problem of unerring belief that you are right and no one else can think different while accusing those non believers of that very same behaviour. Who needs to be consistent when you are so right. That’s how cult thinking on any level warps your thinking I guess. Over to you god squad.

    3. You are flat out lying to say that Starbuck’s CEO doesn’t want to serve Christians.

Read and comprehend, “If you support traditional marriage over gay marriage, Starbucks doesn’t want your business” This has nothing to do with Christians, and has everything to do with being nonjudgmental and supporting the law of the land. With this one statement, Howard Shultz is more Christian like than the CEO of Chick-fil-A.

There are plenty of Christians of all sects, that are gay and or support gay rights. For the record, there is nothing in the Ten Commandments that says you can’t be gay. Like wise gays can be baptized, believe and follow Jesus too.

The extremists are simply ignorant. This doesn’t change how or who gets into Heaven, which is the essence of everything they do. They are trying to get into Heaven, and frankly are headed in the wrong direction, by hating and causing hate. “SPITE”

      1. @Gollum: You may want to check your facts before you start posting things in quotation marks which were never said. Read and comprehend, what the Starbucks CEO actually said was in response to a shareholder’s question: “If you feel, respectfully, that you can get a higher return than the 38% you got last year, it’s a free country. You can sell your shares in Starbucks and buy shares in another company. Thank you very much.”

Of course several media outlets twisted what he said and reported a false quote which you repeated.

  1. Apple made me rich, I need to confess this here but I do not know a better place because I made it on Apple Stocks and also on working with the Mac, both seem to be nowhere else more popular than on MDN these days.

I want you to just ask you for 1 thing today,
Why do we allow the next President to do the right thing, although he provides a pretty boring personality that has brought down the results in Florida in the end so many years ago? So mean of him, isn’t it?

What if Jon Stewart runs for the republicans?

Yea, the plot of the next Tom Cruise Movie, the ‘world unite in order to shut down DonaldDumb’…
    Jon, are you in?
    Tom, think about it.

      1. That comment was meant for “wepay.anyway”. As for whether I’m really a doctor you don’t know squat about it, and your comment was as coherent as the one by “wepay.anyway”. So in other words, piss off.

        1. Manners are inevitable like responsibility, cure, free will, free speech and a fucking iPhone in your pocket.

Get lost or get in. This is not a game.

          ¿ Do you get it?
