“I don’t mean to pick on Peter Burrows and his team at BloombergBusiness,” Philip Elmer-DeWitt writes for Fortune.
“Everybody who writes about Apple does it from time to time,” P.E.D. writes. “But seven references to the people ‘familiar with Apple’s plans’ in the first five paragraphs of Apple Said to Delay Live TV Service to 2016 as Negotiations Stall may set some kind of anonymous sourcing record.”
“It’s one thing for the folks at CBS, Fox and NBC (just a guess) to talk out-of-school about their negotiations with Apple,” P.E.D. writes. “But ‘the people’ in Thursday’s story seem to know everything about Apple…”

But why delay the inevitable record companies, I mean, broadcast companies?
AT&T recently purchased DirecTV…
It seems, before every potential Apple announcement of Apple TV, in one form or another, there is some major purchase of a media entity. And then negotiations stall.
I would think that at some point, some of the participating negotiating entities are playing with Apple. They are agreeing to deals, then based on some condition, breaking those deals based on a change in the market.
I think Apple needs to simply “Buy” ABC/Disney, and move with that angle, not because it’s it’s right or wrong, but it would STFU whoever’s messing with them, which is most likely Leslie Moonves.
I am not a source, I know nothing. 😉
But you’re pretty much dead on target. Yes, just buy Disney and get ABC and ESPN (and a host of other media entities) in the bargain. ESPN would be the ultimate bargaining chip. Without it, cable and satellite providers die a quick death.
Even though I don’t watch ESPN, I think this is a great idea. Great bargaining tool.
Mmmm.. ABC… Apple Broadcasting Company has rather a nice ring to it.
