“Apple today released OS X Yosemite 10.10.4, an under-the-hood update that introduces several bug fixes and performance improvements,” Juli Clover reports for MacRumors. “Most notably, 10.10.4 includes the removal of the problematic Discoveryd process, which has caused multiple networking issues for some users in OS X Yosemite.
“Discoveryd is a networking process that was introduced in Yosemite to replace mDNSresponder, but it caused problems like slow wake from sleep, failures to resolve DNS names, duplicate machine names, WiFi disconnects, excessive CPU usage, battery drain, and more,” Clover reports. “In 10.10.4, discoveryd has been replaced with the older mDNSresponder process.”

Yes, the fix for OS X Yosemite’s Wi-Fi problems is finally on the way! – June 12, 2015
Never had any wi-fi issues to start with.
My Mac Pro never had the issues, but my Mac Mini Server sure did.
Hopefully my Mac will stop renaming itself with (1) after it all the time.
My 15″ MacBook Pro had reached (5)…. but my 13″ MacBook Pro never had a problem. It always struck me as being very strange that there seemed to be no rhyme nor reason as to why this problem occurred. Just happy that “discoveryD” is GONE!
After updating to 10.10.4 open System Pref>Sharing and change the name back to its original version.
Knew how to fix it, just got tired of HAVING to fix it and just let it go. It actually became “geeky” entertainment to see what value it would reach once I knew 10.10.4 was going to kill discoveryD.
Thank gawd finally! It’s been painful on my iMac. Couldn’t wait long enough for it to resolve and used my iPad mostly.
Good. That was one serious POS code.
Another thing Apple thought it could do better than a secure established Internet standard
Mine did… Had to open Netwrok Diagnostics all the time to fix issues and finally get connectivity. Using the world’s ‘best’ laptop charged with the latest version of the world’s ‘best’ OS. Timmy, Timmy, Timmy… Will be adding this one to the list of embarrassing disasters on your watch. Steve would’ve eaten the programmers’ hearts for breakfast while handing pink slips and F-Off’s to those in charge. But it’s a different Apple now… a gentler Apple (watches, credit cards on your phone, buying a fashion headphone company instead of a great technological headphone company, hiring fashion CEO’s as VP’s, Gay Pride marching, etc.).
Love the wi-fi fix. Nothing but problems before with wi-fi networking, now it works!
Remember if you have issues, get the COMBO from Apple Support page and install that.
