Apple looks to be building an alternative to the Google-branded, hand-over-your-privacy ‘Internet Experience’

“Apple has made significant improvement to Siri particularly in terms of overall integration and predictive contextual artificial intelligence,” Jonny Evans writes for Computerworld.

“The new Siri is now an even more effective alternative search engine, a step that erodes Google market share, particularly as the world goes mobile and much of the meat of Google revenue remains rooted in contextual ads on websites,” Evans writes. “This is slow death by a thousand cuts for Google ads revenue. Can Google really make up for this lost income by making all the data it collects about its users (you and me) available for sale?”

“Will Google become Apple’s next lunch?” Evans writes. “Not likely, but Apple does appear to be building an alternative to the Google-branded ‘Internet Experience.'”

Given the choice of paying a little money for services with privacy or paying with personal data for services with google, I believe many many Apple users will choose the former. This bodes poorly for google in the long run as Apple brings these services online. The big hammer will be search…

      1. Apple might be moving now, but —

        1. it is slow
        2. the plan is not comprehensive by any known sign
        3. there’s no denying that Apple did nothing for many years in some aspects. Third party apps from 10 years ago have strong features which Apple does not offer. Little Snitch comes to mind.

For people who know assembler code for ports, they can name at least 20 categories of problems to always be watched. Apple did well on some of those categories. Other categories ? The barn door has been open for decades.
