“As a self-confessed gadget fan, I have to admit, I’ve been excited about the Apple Watch ever since the hype started,” Kevin Linsell writes for BetaNews. “I’m no Apple Addict (only started using an iPhone 18 months ago, have never purchased music from iTunes and I don’t own a Mac) however I ordered the Apple Watch two minutes after the advance ordering opened… And now it has arrived — so the question is, does it live up to my expectations?”
“As you might expect, first impressions are excellent. The presentation is impressive, everything is neat and feels reassuringly expensive,” Linsell writes. “The watch is smaller and lighter than I had imagined. The screen is also bright and clear. The quality of the build is of course, superb.”
“The biggest test of the Apple Watch was always going to be my wife’s verdict — would this be yet another pointless gadget or something she would also desire?” Linsell writes. “The verdict is in — a 38mm Apple Watch Sport has been ordered!”

MacDailyNews Take: Linsell mentions the current inability of Apple Watch to respond to emails and that is also one of our biggest wishes for Watch OS 1.1. That’s perhaps the most glaring case where it seems like Apple simply ran out of time. Even so, just having the ability to delete email via Apple Watch is a tremendous timesaver. We expect and hope Apple to flesh out Apple Watch’s email capabilities ASAP.

I think women are making a mistake ordering the 38mm because it’s supposedly the “lady” version. Just like smartphone screens, bigger is better. 38mm is too small to be useful. These are computer watches, there should be no gender distinction just like there is no “lady” version of the iPhone.
It isn’t just about “lady” versions. It is about what is comfortable. I ordered my wife the smaller one, but the truth is she would probably be fine with the bigger one. Me? I want the small one! I have small-ish hands, wrist, etc. It is actually the main reason I quit wearing a watch in the first place. I find them generally uncomfortable, and that is at least in part because of the bulk.
I got the 42mm and Mrs. Ziffel got the 38mm. She loves it and says there’s no reason for her to have the 42. The smaller one fits her wrist better, plus it saves $50.
Like countless people have said, if you’re interested in an Apple Watch, go try them on at an Apple Store before you decide what to get.
As a guy, I assure you the 38mm is not too small to be useful, or a mistake. I have small wrists and this size is perfect for me. Sorry to disappoint you but you are completely and totally wrong.
Also notification tones on the watch come, but not the App specific tones on the iPhone. You should be able to get both.
Maybe he’ll finally get a Mac now.

Yes, I also tend to delete more often than archive, so when I need to delete an email from my watch I instead just dismiss it and then still waste time later on my iPhone deleting the email.

What is 28nm and 14nm? You mean 38mm and 42mm? Or did I step through a spacetime hole while watching Interstellar and we suddenly deal with products 20 times smaller?
