Everyone really loves Apple

“Millennials are addicted to Facebook [stock]. Boomers love GE, and recent grads worship Buffett,” Evelyn Cheng reports for CNBC. “Most of all, everybody loves Apple.”

“That’s the findings of TD Ameritrade data on the age-divided equity asset allocations of its 6.3 million retail clients. Apple topped the charts, but the underlying differences show that age matters,” Cheng reports. “Fighting the popularity competition with the iPhone maker, General Electric’s stock had the second-highest allocation in portfolios of investors age 50 and older.”

“Apple went public in 1980, while GE was an original member of the Dow Jones industrial average when it was created in 1896,” Cheng reports. “Facebook’s popularity may be on the wane. The social media stock was the second-highest holding among 25-to-49-year-olds, but eighth for the younger set.”

  1. Yeah, nobody uses Facebook anymore. I can tell because my newsfeed no longer has posts from my friends, but ads and stories from businesses and blogs and news sources I follow. It’s become a news reader simply for the fact that businesses are the only ones still using it, because they are still confused into thinking it’s important.

  2. Agreed, Facebook is a newsfeed and is starting to look like Yahoo’s homepage. From watching my teenagers, the new social media is Snapchat and iMessaging. I’m sharing photos with family via Shared Photo Streams. You can like and make comments and it’s more private way to share photos.
