“Apple’s upcoming Beats-based streaming music service will likely be named ‘Apple Music’ and will have deep social networking integration for artists, according to industry sources briefed on the plans for the new service,” Mark Gurman reports for 9to5Mac.
“Taking a page out of the discontinued iTunes Ping feature from earlier this decade, the service will allow artists to have their own pages within the streaming music service that they can use to post track samples, photos, videos, and concert updates,” Gurman reports. “Artists will also be able to share the content of other artists in an effort of cross-promotion.”
Gurman reports, “Artists Activity will be a core feature of the “Apple Music” streaming service, but users will actually be able to disable it in the Restrictions Settings panel in iOS 8.4.”

I actually thought Ping was kind of cool.
I agree. There was nothing wrong with Ping. The problem had more to do with trying to get people to use yet-another-social-network. Facebook was already a part of everyone’s “social”. Who wanted to have to keep track of two separate sites?
To start with “Ping-like” is not flattering.
Why can’t Apple turn Contacts into a social network?
Seriously Apple, one check box and hundreds of millions of people would be connected. And we’d never have to update someone’s contact details again.

Well sounds like what as an artist i would want to me. Is there nothing like that already? Just seems like a no brainer to give such social aspects to service of this nature to attract both performer and and listener.
More iTunes bloat is the last thing people want. We all know how well Ping went over with the public. Why would Apple want to repeat past mistakes?
