“Of course, I shouldn’t be surprised,” Swartz writes. “Apple has redefined the way the world communicates, gleans information and entertains itself.”

As the Apple Turns! Sounds like a daytime show fit for Apple TV, but rather was an old time Apple rumors site with a funny storyline flare. As one of my included stops to hear whats new with Apple, I miss ATAT!
should be of no surprise to anyone implementing PLUM analysis of AAPL over the past 16 quarters, and adjusting +- for BUN.
I’ll bet not even MDN in their most optimistic forecast could have foreseen the triumph that Apple has achieved.

The only point at which OS X would win over a large number of people is when the $499 Mac comes out. Before then, it would be a waste of advertising dollars.
BTW, Cringely is right–a $249 Mac would be even smarter, at least for a year or so.
… and their world is one where you feel they care about your security and privacy, unlike their major competitors, which mine data on you (you are the product)!

Unless that $800 billion is the high during one trading session (or $772.7 is close enough) I think someone is rounding up.. As for the value being more than Google and Microsoft, that was true till last Thursday and the blip this past Monday. As of 4/24 MS rallied by about $38billion putting MS in 2nd place over Google and Exxon. Current top 3: AAPL-749.3B; MSFT-396.9B; GOOG/GOOGL-379.4B

Just keep in mind, this phrase could just as easily apply to Apple now. I’ve been around long enough to see IBM be the “big bad company”, then Microsoft, and now Apple. Who knows how long Apple will hold the crown?

And pray Google never takes the crown (or Facebook for that matter). Hopefully, the next several decades will see the rise of a company that is even more innovative than Apple. Wouldn’t that be cool?
Bought my first Apple II back in the days when you could buy just the motherboard (without the case). Still have my //gs packed away in the basement. Owned two Lisas and probably a dozen different Macs over the years. Still have my Netwon MessagePad 2100 (even turn it on now and then — Wonderful device despite the problems with the early units). So, yeah, I’ve been a big Apple fan for as long as there has been an Apple. It’s been a wild ride. That said, I won’t shed a single tear if something better comes along…
I too have been on Apple since the Apple II days when it did all our shipping documents.
Right now, if something better than a Mac comes alone, I will bet that it may be HP or similar commercialization of Memristors. Other companies are working on memristors, too, but HP is working on both the chip side and an OS to go with the new architecture.
I have no clue about how HP might commercialize it, but it seems likely that high end business computers will be the first implementation of what HP calls “The Machine.”
I’ll bet Apple would love to use it if and when it becomes viable for laptop use, but that would entail a massive code base shift.
Wholeheartedly agree. I was frothing at the mouth to break up MS in the ’90s. I still think it was the right thing to do. You know what? IMO MS was never as bad as Apple, overtly dictating what you can and cannot run.
