U.S. House Speaker John Boehner: Republicans will continue efforts to stop misguided scheme to regulate the Internet

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement after President Obama urged the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to impose new federal “net neutrality” regulations that would undermine a free and open Internet and hurt our economy:

It’s disappointing, but not surprising, that the Obama administration continues to disregard the people’s will and push for more mandates on our economy. An open, vibrant Internet is essential to a growing economy, and net neutrality is a textbook example of the kind of Washington regulations that destroy innovation and entrepreneurship. Federal bureaucrats should not be in the business of regulating the Internet – not now, not ever. In the new Congress, Republicans will continue our efforts to stop this misguided scheme to regulate the Internet, and we’ll work to encourage private-sector job creation, starting with many of the House-passed jobs bills that the outgoing Senate majority ignored.

        1. calling our President a monster makes me sick. I hope you aren’t a citizen of the USA, and if you are go find another country you unpatriotic and ungrateful TROLL.

        2. Not to be argumentative, but mishandling healthcare (if that is your view) isn’t quite the same as starting two wars.

People can have different opinions on either, but the term monster does make more sense in the context of starting wars, based on rationals that didn’t pan out.

Bush Sr was as staunch a Republican as his son, but his more strategic and surgical wars did not get him widely referred to as a monster. He clearly felt war should be avoided, despite taking action when he deemed it necessary.

I don’t think Bush Jr was a monster, just a tool for reacting to terrorism exactly as terrorists could hope, by escalating everything and killing a lot of people who were not responsible.

        3. …not to be argumentative, but, Obola Messiah announced yesterday on “Fake The Nation” 1500 more US troops to Iraq, that coupled with the recent bombing of Syria makes your The Pacifist Obama caricature a little hard to stomach. Dunno, maybe he wants another Nobel Peace Prize. The following quote kinda reminds me of the mentality of the shil…er, commenters today at MDN:

“During a conference call with reporters, senior administration officials denied that Obama waited until after the midterm elections to announce the deployment so as not to alarm an already skittish electorate.”

          http://www.bostonglobe.com/news/world/2014/11/08/obama-send-troops-help-iraq/P5EnPuyiCYCZSlXTZCQbQM/story.html

        4. Don’t assume that everyone who thinks your comments are stupid always makes a comment to the idiocy. I usually don’t, because I usually don’t waste my time responding to your right-wing extremist BS. Today was an exception, just to make a point.

        5. Do as I did, I removed MDN app on all my devices, made sure to put a bad review on the App store, and now use HotMacNews to get the same articles without the right wing propaganda. It was bad enough when the fanboy here at MDN always took Apple’s side but this is too far. Every one with half a brain should reject this for what it is. We unfortunately have become a nation of haters. The hatred for Obama because he is black is ridiculous and way out of touch with reality. They now feel emboldened because they won elections almost all in deep red states during an off presidential year. When 2016 come around some Americans will see nothing gets done with all this hate and Hillary will be President, the Senate back in the blue column

        6. Thanks, Ken. I was wondering how to get the same articles. I grow weary of the vitriol and anger. I have noticed that one characteristic of the far right is the almost perpetual anger that seems to take the place of reason.

        7. Nothing ruins this site!

Not your stupid hate. Not your stereotyping. Not your closed mind. Not your narrow opinion. Not your expletives. Not your elitist party superiority (in you own mind).

Election losing whiners like YOU who don’t give a damn about free speech can MOVE ON.

          Please, move on!!

        8. So you say people hate Obama because he is black. I did not know that is all he did at work for six years.

And Hillary will be in the White House after 2016. She can’t keep track of the man in her own house so how the hell will she keep track of the world and do good for the country?

        9. Most of us are tired of responding to your political tripe, botvinnik. I think that the massive quantity of down votes speaks for itself. Or don’t you believe in true democracy? Asswipe.

        10. Down votes speak for itself? Ha! What a crock! I’m on the floor laughing.

When the same person can vote only ONCE on ONE DEVICE, ONE DAY A YEAR — then your stupid sanctimonious cheerleading post might gain legs and resemble something significant begging for RELEVANCE.

How do you think one line wonders a la cliche grande regular posters get 50+ five star votes? A new breeze in thinking, I think not.

We also have Facebook likes, Twitter suggestions, et al and after all, Botty does bring out the BEST in opposition.

Imagine how dull it would be around here to read only one point of view all the time. That would be Row 1, Seat 1 watching the grey screen in the 1984 Apple ad before a flying …

        11. Exactly^^^ . You can down vote this comment into oblivion for all I care. But all you sheeple have ever done is pull the race card. “Oh, you don’t like Obama? You hate black people!”

        12. Obstructionist, self-centered, egotIstical pigs. You think that you know everything and show utter disdain for anyone who disagrees with you. Your paradigm does not allow you to consider other points of view. As a result, you and your ilk cannot engage in reasonable debate. Thus the gridlock in Congress. The results of the past six years show the truth.

        13. Melvin, you may have well set the bar too high: an unreachable new height in hypocrisy…In two sentences, barely a single breath, you’ve managed to call a commenter an “obstructionist, self centered egotistical pig” and, amazingly, within the same breath in the next sentence you accuse him of showing “utter disdain for anyone who disagrees.” No shit, Melvin, old Joe Goebbels himself would be proud of you.

but, have a nice day anyway.

        14. Six years of gridlock in Congress, eh Melvin?

Are you talking about the Harry Reid control of Senate all those wasted years?

Or, are you talking about BOTH houses of Congress controlled by Democrats after Obama was elected?

Understand how horrible it is to be a dumb Democrat these days. Always hope for the future, but nothing happens.

        15. I read yesterday that the KKK is inviting minorities to join, doesn’t make them any less racist, just like Rush employing a black man doesn’t prove he is not racist. We have heard enough of his bloviating deriding minorities and reinforcing negative stereotypes. He is a racist pig.

The man is a pig period, a shitty husband (how many wives now? such sterling conservative values he exhibits), a drug abuser and very likely a child-sex predator. (See viagra air to dominican republic stories for context)

Any person taking moral queues from a washed up DJ turned divisive political hack ought to have their head examined.

        16. A great working relationship between Rush and Mr. Snerdly, regardless of race, is a wonderful thing.

And what do you post? Ignore reality, don’t give either man the credit they deserve and twist it into something bad and perverse.

You are so full of hate. You NEED professional help.

    1. It’s unfortunate that politics have to be entertained on this website, but considering the conservative leanings of the webmaster, it probably goes with the territory. Anyone who can hold an iota of respect for a creature such as Boehner, and who vilifies the man who brought the financial structure of the nation back from ruin, deserves everything life will hold for you. Namely misery, disrespect, and confirmation that you are (without question) a pathetic idiot.

    2. Let be the first to tell you, you are racist and full of hate. You find it difficult to get up in the morning knowing there is a black man, what you despise most of all in the highest seat of power in the world.

    3. You’re freaking clueless. 1) What Boehner is hailing as “Net Neutrality” is exactly what Net Neutrality is about stopping — favoritism for his big campaign contributors for more bandwidth and speed while all of us that work for a living get left eating their dust and hoping that we can get a connection. 2) As for impeachment, you bozos have been calling for that since his first election, without an ounce of intelligence injected into the idea that impeachment requires cause…something that you, Boehner, Cruz or any of the rest of the idiot right wing have never understood. Grow a brain cell, will ya?

      1. Your put downs are always aimed at Republicans. What insight do you have on Bonehead Biden coming from the most corrupt county in PA? The Chronic Clinton amnesia. The Sharpton Sleight of hand, and on and on?

        1. Your comments about Biden were probably the funniest bits I’ve read in weeks. SO FUNNY! Please, tell us one about the Martians who’ve invaded your ass. Please.

        2. I did not vote for Obama or Biden and am not a Democrat so why should I apologize or explain them? In a country of over 300 million, there are more than 2 views of everything.
Both major parties are captive to special interests, but are not the same- one is less objectionable and one is totally out in wacko land.

The Progressive movement is not exclusive to the Democratic Party and is vastly underrepresented in national media. Theodore Roosevelt- a Republican- was a Progressive. Sadly, the Republican Party is now in the grip of the reactionary extreme right wing.

        3. Wait, what? Your retort to the unethical political cronyism of your conservative leader is essentially: Nana-nana-boo-boo Biden is corrupt too?

How conservative of you, thanks for putting your “values” on display, you sure don’t disappoint.

      1. Left unchecked, the Tea Party will destroy his country.

Influence of the Tea Party idiots is the biggest reason I tend to side with Democrats more than Republicans (registered Independent, BTW). I think both sides are full of self-important idiots, but the Tea Party tips the scale in favor of the Republicans being the bigger idiots.

        1. BS. The founding fathers were divorcing themselves from a monarchy that refused to allow them representatives in Britain’s House of Commons — amongst many other individual reasons.

They were not marrying multinational corporations, making representative government deaf to the citizen and puppet to the corporate executives as your political party favors.

Hamilton would have challenged you to a duel and won easily.

        2. BS x infinity +1: Hamilton, THE proponent of a national bank, got his balls shot off of him in a New Jersey forest and summarily bled to death, similar to what the Federal Reserve does to Americans today…so Al Hamilton, a lackey of the Bank Of England, ain’t exactly the guy to quote in defense of the “divorce from the House Of Commons.”
You might also note that “divorce,” as you impotently describe it, was a shooting war….”we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.” They weren’t joking.

          Have a nice day.

        3. Right…but idiots seem to be ignorant of the fact that it was NOT a tax protest, but a protest about taxes being levied without REPRESENTATION (i.e. the Crown unilaterally granting the British East India Tea Company a defacto monopoly). So when your Tea Party heroes advocate for such things as Citizens United which grants corporations the rights of citizens they’re quite literally undermining those very principles. The Boston Tea Party was a protest against the power of corporations in governance, it’s was a demand for participatory government representing the will of the People. It’s the modern incarnation that has no idea what created this nation and it’s why time and again they are forced to resort to fear tactics instead of reason. At least learn history before spouting off about what you clearly don’t understand.

        4. Principles of the Tea Party:

          Blame the other guy
Use race and religion to instill fear
Steal liberties in the name of freedom
          Claim God as your own
          Make God a republican
          Destroy from within

        5. Your comments just shows how much you have been dumped down by progressive liberalism (too much MSNBC…). They teach hate and you listen. None of what you stated is accurate.

Now, can you really handle truth?

The principles of most Tea Party groups are:
          1. Illegal aliens are here illegally.
          2. Pro-domestic employment is indispensable.
          3. A strong military is essential.
          4. Special interests must be eliminated.
          5. Gun ownership is sacred.
          6. Government must be downsized.
          7. The national budget must be balanced.
          8. Deficit spending must end.
          9. Bailout and stimulus plans are illegal.
          10. Reducing personal income taxes is a must.
          11. Reducing business income taxes is mandatory.
          12. Political offices must be available to average citizens.
          13. Intrusive government must be stopped.
          14. English as our core language is required.
          15. Traditional family values are encouraged.

        6. let’s dissect this list of “principles” wmd4 unleashed on us:

The principles of most Tea Party groups are:

          1. Illegal aliens are here illegally. <–How is this a "principle" and it is #1? Really?

          2. Pro-domestic employment is indispensable. <–Again how is this a principle? What the hell does it mean? Indispensable to whom for what purpose? Where is the anti-domestic employment movement exactly?

          3. A strong military is essential. <–Essential to what? Not a principle either..

          4. Special interests must be eliminated. <– You mean like the Frackers, the Tea-party, the Pro-life movement, Anti-immigration? Anti-regulation folks? The Koch Brothers? Great!! I can get behind this.

          5. Gun ownership is sacred. <–Oh Boy, religion and guns, there you go getting all special interest on us in one sentence, see #4 please.

          6. Government must be downsized. <–Why? Seems like a pretty broad stroke there chief, justify this please, explain how the people will be better served by this? As a general rule it seems ideological and short-sighted.

          7. The national budget must be balanced. <–Always good to set goals of doing things that haven't happened in 50+ years. I like it, set the bar high. Why isn't this one #1, because it is an unachievable goal perhaps?

          8. Deficit spending must end. <–Isn't this the same as #7, redundant.

          9. Bailout and stimulus plans are illegal. <–Interesting. Not sure it is accurate.

          10. Reducing personal income taxes is a must. <–Why? So selfishness and greed is your principle? Why not state it more plainly instead of hiding the true meaning of this "principle".

          11. Reducing business income taxes is mandatory. <–How ever will we pay for a strong military if all taxes are cut?

          12. Political offices must be available to average citizens. <– So the tea-party will be leading the charge to reverse the Citizen's United ruling and will be introducing a constitutional amendment to get corporate money out of politics! Great, I can get behind this. I am sure it will all start with refusing the Koch brothers and their dark money right? I'm Sure Michelle Bachman will lead on this principled approach right?

          13. Intrusive government must be stopped. <–I agree, the mass surveillance of citizens must be stopped. Women should be left alone to make their choices right?

          14. English as our core language is required. <–Required for what exactly? How about we start making American kids learn additional languages too, I mean your principle seems grounded in ignorance, most of the western world is multi-lingual, why do we have to make a principle of being less-educated?

          15. Traditional family values are encouraged. <-Who's tradition, who's values? Can you even define this vague "principle" Talk about special interests.

        7. Wow – Great job twisting words.

I am amazed how you don’t grasp the word “principle”.
Let me help you. “A principle is fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior…” So all 15 items are PRINCIPLES!

By the way, every comment you made above just shows how little you know about the Tea Party principles. For example 11: You can’t understand how will goverment pay for a strong military if all taxes are cut? And yet the Tea Party stated REDUCING business income taxes is mandatory. Reducing is different than eliminating taxes (twisting).

BTW, I am not a Tea Party member, but after reading your comments maybe I need to join.

        8. You are totally CLUELESS, sorry to say.

The Tea Party influence is the only hope for saving the U.S. What scares MOST VOTERS is the far left day by day destroying all the institutions and VALUES that made the country great.

Red Wave is here baby and the Tea Party values are the same values of Republicans and conservative Democrats to restore the good ‘ole USA.

Not go back to Mom’s basement, put your Beats headphones on and light up your joint. Maybe one day you will see policy differences CLEARLY and understand politics.

        9. You almost got it right, you left out the gerrymandered districts and disenfranchised voters.

In many state races the margin of victory was nearly identical to the numbers of voters they disenfranchised and was aided by the gerrymandering to create reich wing “strongholds”.

        10. Exactly right. There were more democratic votes in Michigan but the GOP actually increased the number of offices they hold. The GOP certainly doesn’t care about votes and voter wishes. They are so out of bed with what the country wants.

        11. Yeah, only Democrats win fair and square. If they gave up on walking around money, dead people voting, busing in felons and homeless then one day they could stand tall for a fair election. Never happen.

        12. Uh, your “wave” is laughable. Let’s put it into perspective shall we:

2014 was the lowest voter turnout since 1942. While I realize the GOP would like to disenfranchise enough people to return to 1802 levels, hardly what I would call a “wave”. In fact it’s more like ankle high, not worth paddling out for.

      2. From Jonathan Gruber, architect of Obamacare:
“This bill was written in a tortured way to make sure CBO did not score the mandate as taxes. If CBO scored the mandate as taxes, the bill dies, okay? So it’s written to do that. In terms of risk-rated subsidies, if you had a law which said healthy people are gonna pay in… If you made it explicit the healthy people pay in and sick people get money, it would not have passed, okay? Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, you know, call it the stupidity of American voter or whatever. But basically that was really, really critical to getting the thing to pass.”

Nothing but lies came out of the so-called transparent WH about Obamacare. And the government thinks the American people are too stupid to know what’s good for them. God this pisses me off.

  1. What Boehner is really saying: We will work our asses off to make sure the people of the United States continue to have some of the worse internet access and the highest cost internet access of any country in the world, as that will make our wealthy supporters even more wealthy. As as far as the people of the United States, screw them! We got them to vote us into power against their own best interest, so let them eat cake!

    1. America doesn’t have any of these issues with internet.
You have no clue what you are talking about other than what you have been fed to repeat.

Oooh, some city-state in Europe has a faster download speed than all of the mid-western US averaged. Go figure.

I’ll enjoy this argument while holding my liquor and you can play it while licking your Holder…..

        1. You just provided the proof.
Not ONE country near the size of the US has our speed.

PLUS There are so many issues with that ‘poll’, but you still get the idea.

Take that same area of most of those small countries and apply it to the northeast, Chicago/Houston, LA, DFW and see what the results are.

        2. Also, this isn’t a poll. You could try making sure what you say is accurate.

“Based on millions of recent test results from Ookla Speedtest, this index compares and ranks consumer download speeds around the globe. The value is the rolling mean speed in Mbps over the past 30 days. Only tests taken within 300 miles of the server are eligible for inclusion in the index.”

        3. Sorry for your confusion and lack of open-mindedness, but that is just a sampling of people who
          A) have the app
          B) used it in a certain period
          C) used in certain areas

That is polling. It is NOT specific results from all ISPs offered and in all areas of a country by all users, what is offered and what the hi/lo ratio is.

So tell me, how is it I cherry picked anything? You can fit most of the first 25 in the same area as the US.

I really don’t think you understand how this works.

  2. ‘If the Web becomes too complicated, too fraught with security concerns, then its proliferation may stop – or slow down. It should be kept open. It should be kept free. One of the major reasons for the Web’s proliferation is its simplicity. A lot of people want to make the Web more complicated. This simple model has had a profound impact by starting to become ubiquitous. The most important thing for the Web is not to become more complicated. By collective agreement. Sure. Go for ubiquity.’

‘Steve Jobs Bio: The Unauthorized Autobiography.’

  3. Ah yes, republicans and their need to deregulate industry so they can maximize profits at the expense of the taxpayers. How’d that work out for the banking industry? Oh wait, the taxpayers had to BAIL THEM OUT, even after they raped us? Yeah, the Repubs like that strategy, they like it a lot.

    1. It’s too bad that one of W’s decision points wasn’t demolishing the Clinton administration’s policy that caused the horrific housing crisis and the subsequent economic fallout that we continue to languish under to this day. Likely G.W. Bush was averse to being labeled a “racist” by knee-jerk Libs and their lapdog media and those who make their profit by keeping their own people slaves to government subsistence living (Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, etc.)

In 1994 the Clinton administration declared war on an enemy — the so-called “racist lender” — who officials claimed was to blame for differences in homeownership rate, and launched what would prove the costliest social crusade in U.S. history:

Smoking-Gun Edict Shows U.S. Government Behind Housing Meltdown

      1. What a honker of a narrative!

This is very simple: despite what you’ve been fed, the subprime crisis was caused by repeal of Glass-Steagal by a Republican Congress and relaxation of the net capital rule by the Bush SEC in 2004.

        1. I’m no Clinton apologist, but recall the circumstances of 1999 and the voting history of GLBA. A veto would have done no good, because the pockets of the financial industry had overwhelming bipartisan support.

I mean, really. This is not a tally of wins and losses in the D and R columns, though you’d love it to be. There’s context to this, and history has proven that giving the keys away to the corporations is an absolutely horrible idea. As much as is wrong with our democracy, plutocracy is worse. At least we get to vote without having to own shares.

        1. The mortgage collapse was engineered with good intentions, as always with liberals absent logic and common sense, by Clinton — Mr. DE.

Read the linked story, face facts and EVOLVE.

The sub-prime horrid lending practices took many years to nearly collapse banks and led directly as the major cause of the depression under Dubya’s watch.

Anyone who says differently is a party tool, or is it fool?

Consistently read you are not interested in the full story. Naively bashing the other team relentlessly lifts your dress.

          Too bad.

        2. The legislation that repealed Glass-Steagall is called the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, after its three cosponsors, all republicans. The act’s legislative history is openly available to all. These allegations that Clinton was the architect are just false.

Why are we insisting on pointing fingers at two parties that are each wholly owned subsidiaries of the same corporations? Shills calling shills shills. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad.

    2. Obama pulled the same stunt when he bailed out General Motors. Have you forgotten that little deal? He has been bought and paid for by the Big Unions, each party has pulled this crap and we the American Taxpayer foot the bill! G.W.Bush and BHO are both GUILTY!!!!!

  4. https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/summary.php?id=D000000461

. . . If you go to this link, you will see that John Boehner is one of the top recipients of contributions from Comcast . . . These politicians are so “owned” by these corporations, that they should be required to provide a disclaimer before they speak . . . what’s sad is that Boehner and his ilk are are willing to “sell” a billion dollar industry to these monopolists for hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions.

      1. It is plainly obvious that both parties, and the system that they have allowed to be gerrymandered by the richest and most irresponsible corporate interests, are entirely corrupt. So why do you cheer the more corrupt of the two, First and bot boy? Your condescension of the common citizen and his desire for net neutrality — an open anf fair playing field with rules and rule enforcement — reeks of stupid blind partisan politics of the worst flavor..

  5. These debate tactics are nauseating.

With the exception of crap Internet providers, we all want the exact same thing here: open, free, and affordable Internet. It shouldn’t be a wedge issue – but somehow, by phrasing the means of getting there as a “regulation”, republicans somehow are being tricked into jumping take the same side of crap internet providers.

This sentiment of “all regulation is evil” sounds beyond stupid to my ears, yet it somehow resonates among Republicans. I don’t get how ideas so stupid can be so infectious – but clearly the crap Internet companies know how to use it and trick half the country.

    1. gray

I agree; “With the exception of crap Internet providers, we all want the exact same thing here: open, free, and affordable Internet”

Unfortunately the Republicans feel they have to disagree with Obama no mater what. So even if yesterday they felt that there would be open internet – today they are against it because Obama said it. But then – they typically do side with big business.

    2. @gray shader

But you are wrong dude – all regulation IS EVIL! get rid of it all! Let’s let rid of all the child toy safety regulations. And if I wanna drive 60 mph past an elementary school letting out, I should be able to. And let’s let the banks lie to you on your mortgage rates and change your credit card interest rate any time they feel like it. And if you wanna sell lettuce that is laced with pesticides – go ahead. It is only the public that will eat them.

  6. I thought that we all would agree that freer access is good, but repubics can always be counted to get behind the big corps. Evn when it would be against our own, all, best interests.
Repubics of all economic classes always will be adverse to anything remotely coming close to take away any power from big corps. Its their DNA.
Yes, like they say, you cant blame Bush, but wait….didnt I hear Clinton mentioned?
By the way, some repubic spoke of the horrible economic times…lets see…employment up, Wall Street at records high, economic growth up…yes, it cant get any worse than this.
People of the repubic color…find a better answer or maybe, just a better question. You have been sold a bag of shit.

  7. The thing is, if these large corporations wouldn’t screw up the business they’re in, regulation wouldn’t be necessary. The only reason that the idea of regulating the internet came to be, is because the few gatekeepers who control internet access decided to try and see how they can make even more money on it while also limiting it. Corporations hate regulation, yet they’re the one’s who bring it upon themselves. If they’d play fair, no regulation would be necessary.

I don’t get conservatives who freak out anytime the government decides it needs to regulate something. That regulation is there to protect them, yet they fight it because they don’t like government telling people what to do. “Cutting of your nose to spite your face”, look it up.

Oh yeah, regulation also helps level the playing field, so that anyone can start a business in a given area, exactly what conservatives want and strive for, for anyone in America to have a chance to make it. No regulation allows for oligarchies, or worse, a monopoly to form, which absolutely closes the door for new businesses to start in a given field or small businesses to compete.

If anything, conservatives should be all for and the ones championing regulation.

  8. One should think of the big picture. The more people that benefit the better ? Not exactly. Let us refine. Let regulation help the more people and institutions who need respectable internet speed at affordable prices. Libraries and rural customers on dialup or those with too pricey ISPs.

Regulation and other solutions may be 1) tax incentives 2) subsidized pricing 3) price controls 4) government owned ISPs 5) locally owned ISP’s.

Any quick denouncing of alternatives shows a lack of imagination.

  9. Guys – let’s say goodbye to MDN once and for all and let it be the Tea Party/Obama-crazed/Limbaugh-worshipping site it wants to be without our continued support. There’s lots of other places to get Apple News, places that just give you Apple News without shoving their politics down the throat of half their readership every week. Pick another place, any place – I’ll see you there.

    1. Aren’t you proud of who you readers are, MDN, the ones left? “Libtard” “Notacommie” “Redadults” – why you would want to alienate everyone but people like this – if only from a business perspective if nothing else – is a mystery, but its certainly your prerogative. Folks leaving MDN once and for all – check out the app #MacHash in the App Store – its awesome – you can see news from all the major Mac sites while easily filtering out MDN content with just one “off” button in its settings.

      1. You are partisan blind, sorry.

Would you like me to list all the pejorative terms exclusive to the so called open minded left on this site?

Obvious, one sided whining is your thing. Fairly accounting of both sides doing the same — you FAIL!

        Buh, bye.

  10. “It’s disappointing, but not surprising, that the Obama administration continues to disregard the people’s will…”

The people’s will, like the profound majority of comments submitted to the FCC requesting stronger support for net neutrality, and not in support of Wheeler’s horrible paid fast-lane policy? That people’s will?

  11. So the Republicans want to give outfits like AT@T the ability to charge whatever they want? No regulation to keep pricing fair between monster companies and smaller ones? They think it is good for such companies to drastically lower Internet speeds for people who use a lot of data?
So the writer of this article thinks that this is a good thing? Time for the writer of this article to start getting his news and opinions from something other than Rubert Murdoch’s ultra right wing propaganda machine. (Do watchers of Fox really want a foreign billionaire to use his immense media power to control public opinion and dictate U.S. politics? Really?)

  12. Excuse me and begging everyone’s pardon, but would someone please explain to me with logic and without bias, anger, rancor or other political points of view, an understanding of what “Net Neutrality” really means?

As I understand it, I can now access every accessible site on the web at the same speed, relative of course to the programming code used on the site. What is being proposed is that web sites with more money can pay money to ISPs and in effect, be more quickly accessible to end users.

I should be able to access MDS for example, at the same speed as, say, cnn.com and not have MDS slowed down (or FEEL slower) because cnn.com can afford to pay Verison, AT&T, or whatever carrier money so that cnn.com can be in “a fast lane” (seemingly delivered faster to the end user). To my mind, this essentially slows down MDS because if MDS is slow by comparison, people may not wait for MDS to load and may go somewhere else for their news… say cnn.com.

I would like to see the High School Kid’s blog get to my computer as fast as Apple.Com’s (again, taking programming of the web page into account).

I look forward to reading the comments of you folks who are far more experienced and understanding than I. Thank you!

  13. one thing is for sure..our current system of government in an abomination that the founding fathers never intended…career politicians who do nothing more than sell influence and serve their own purposes….
there will be no real change until we seriously reform campaign advertizing & financing…BIG MONEY rules the system. We need to find a way to allow true and fair debate and dissemination of information without campaign ads which perpetuates our system of legal bribery…just sayin

  14. Boner only knows one thing, stop anything Obama does or says. He doesn’t have one idea or thought to help this country out. He’s against everything yet is blind to the fact that Obama has gotten us out of the worst recession. Obama has brought unemployment down to its lowest level since 2008. Obama got many healthcare who never had it before. Yet there are still IDIOTS that because he’s black he should be impeached. For what? Now he wants the internet to stay free and not be taken over by Comcast and alike who will make everyone pay for high bandwidth and will force internet streaming prices to skyrocket which will kill everything we enjoy today.

    Have a nice day!

  15. Let’s face it: many times “people’s will” is just getting nowhere else then just “Games and bread”.
I believe Obama is just a too smart president for most of americans.

  16. How did we have the historic record of private sector job growth over the last 5 years if government regulation was so limiting? I have already seen how not keeping the Internet neutral is really onerous to the average person. Can you imagine if electricity wasn’t regulated and poor people only got spotty service and the wealthy had uninterrupted continuous electricity that was mostly wasted or never used? The GOP is so anti-average Joe who then turns around and votes for them. It’s just amazing.

  17. Will you children stick to the topic? If you want to have a slagging match, at least address the pros and cons of net neutrality and spare us the inane chest-beating.
I, for one, and fully in favor of net neutrality, for the simple reason that I do not trust our corporate oligopoly (how many cable companies are there “competing”?) to manage the internet in a way that empowers individuals and small businesses.
Go ahead. Have at it. But stay on-topic please.
