Our goal is to make the best products with the best experience. And we’re trying to make sure that we are delivering on that, and by and large we do. Our customer satisfaction rate is higher than anybody’s. We have no shortage of either developers or customers … maybe it is naïve, but we [believe] that if we make a better product and a better experience, that there will always be a healthy market for that. And a healthy market doesn’t mean we have to be market-share leader.

The New Mac mini benchmarks lower than the previous generation and lacks upgradeable memory. I would say that is cheapened. Same for recent versions of the iMac.

As for Mac Mini – The $499 model sure is minimal at 1.4 GHz. My 2011 Mac Mini has better graphics than the current high end, $999 model. I’m sorry the Mini lost the ability for the user to upgrade RAM. 🙁 It’s soldered in place, like all the portable Macs.
By the same for the iMac, I meant the lack of easy user repair and upgradeability. I have owned a number of iMacs before Jony did his stylist thing and made the edges skinny for the sake of fashion.
The new Retina iMac is a nice, but overpriced, computer. I prefer discrete components over all in ones – just like audio equipment.
Mac Mini didn’t lose user upgradeable RAM. The RAM is NOT soldered to the board……
at least not indicated by any disclaimer on Apple’s site…….and not all portable macs even at this point are soldered RAM units……depends on model.
27in iMacs are not soldered units either Retina or base…..only the 21.5in models…..
I’m sorry brizzle: But Apple themselves has made it clear that the RAM is indeed now soldered onto the board. Considering the fact that you claim to have checked at Apple’s website I will not be offering you a link where you can read this information. Go find it yourself.
As for RAM on iMacs, I said nothing about the subject of RAM, did I.

IM sorry but lacking user upgradeable memory in the 21in iMac is stupid. It makes the computer cheaper. Users should be able to upgrade ram later on if they so desire.
They need to make an iMac that may not have the latest graphics but still is a very good machine in the lower 999 or 1099 price range then do a mid range and then the retina. Not everyone including me wants to pay that high just to have the retina display.
Im quite happy with my iMac. i had a core 2 duo i held onto till 2 months ago. It works great other then for video converting it was way to slow.
I think the macbook pros are overpriced as well. The air is not to bad but the pros are just way to much.
They need something in a lower price range that still is mac but maybe not all the bells and whistles. Again not everyone wants that.
Then why are they still selling phones and iPads with 16gb.
