“Privacy enthusiasts and conspiracy theorists alike should be pleased to hear that in iOS 8, users can choose to make another Internet search engine the default for Apple’s Safari Web browser, and one of the options is the privacy-friendly DuckDuckGo,” Marshall Honorof reports for Tom’s Guide.
“iOS 8 users who would rather not use Google can instead select Bing, Yahoo or DuckDuckGo,” Honorof reports. “[DuckDuckGo] distinguishes itself by not tracking users or skewing searches toward advertisers’ preferences.”
“Interested users should find the switching process easy,” Honorof reports. “Simply boot up your iOS 8 device, navigate to the Settings menu and select Safari. From there, tap on Search Engine and then DuckDuckGo.”

I’ve used DDG for at least two years and wouldn’t use Guugle if you paid me.
Likewise here AZ. I find it wonderful to do a search and not be hit by ads related to my search, weeks later.
I do some research for friends and it’s very annoying to have what i searched for show in ad form. Just kind of creepy too!

It’s one of the first things I did months ago during the beta phase.
Been using it for years. I’d tweaked previous versions of Safari to use Yahoo, but then edited the prefs so that Yahoo directed to DDG. Hates me the Google.
Made the switch two days ago, and glad I did!
Don’t follow the MDN lemmings. Please check your search results to assure that DDG, BING, GOOGLE, or any other search engine is right for you. You will be tracked no matter what any of them say, that is just a fact of the internet.

I wonder if an Apple purchase of DDG might be in the near future? T would give Apple the search engine many wish Apple would develope, it fits with Apple’s traditional method of acquiring companies that add value to its offerings, and (if it was the default on iOS annd OS X it would screw Google but good. Even though maps got off to a rough start it proved that being the default application has a huge advantage.
