      1. Me too. However to be completely honest, once Face Time came to the Desktop it happened. Yahoo and Skype both fail when compared to FaceTime. Try talking for oh about 30 minutes to 4 hours using either Skype or Yahoo… Apple has them beat in quality and ease with Face Time.

        1. In what way did I say there was something wrong with your G5 Power Mac? I have one running all the time, connected to my HDTV. 🙂 Still very useful…

  1. The story clarifies that M$ is temporarily removing Skype access for Mac OS X 10.5.8 and reports another version will be available soon. The problem is not whether they will or they won’t, but their lack of communication to the general Public. A company this clueless about customer support should not be in business.

    1. Apple isn’t exactly a saint in this regard either. Apple has often pulled the plug on products and services with little or no warning.

As others have lamented here, iOS7 forced adoption was a particularly bad offense. People with slow 32-bit hardware took an instant performance and battery hit, and Apple did NOTHING to help them revert back to iOS6 or provide official assistance on what to do to improve old iPhone performance under iOS7. Sorry Apple apologists, but that ranks as horrid user support from any company.

  2. There are so many cheap options, depending on the country you need to call. I opt for TruPhone. Sometimes Vyke.

I can’t remember the last time I used a computer to make a call; it’s always on the phone app. Once in a blue moon I’ll use the Mac to sling a quick text message across the world.

    Money talks, M$ walks.

Call from USA to Bangkok on home WiFi to mobile phone…

    Vyke: 1.7¢/min. SMS:5¢
    TruPhone: 2¢/min
    Skype: 2.3¢ + 4.9¢ connection fee. SMS 6.3¢

To Asia, the other services beat them almost every time.

I know the difference is chump change, but it can add up if you talk the way I do to buddies ½ hour to 1 hour at a time.

Sometimes my buddies forget how I connect and freak out, thinking I just spent $100 on a phone call and I tell them to calm down, it was only $1.25.
