Online Apple store gets dedicated ‘Beats by Dr. Dre’ section

“Apple has added a specific Beats by Dr. Dre section to the online Apple store, shoppers note,” Electronista reports.

“The page has its own tab under the Accessories section,” Electronista reports. “Apple has sold Beats headphones and speakers for some time, but since the latter’s acquisition, it has begun highlighting the products both online and at retail.”

Great sound should never be an afterthought. In every pair of Beats headphones, every speaker, every note, you’ll experience the unique blend of science and artistry that lets you hear your music the way the artist intended. Don’t just listen. Hear. – Apple Store Online

    1. The only thing wrong with the Beats Solo HD’s is overdone bass, and poorly defined midrange, around the 750-1kHz range. This is very easily cured with a good EQ app, like EQu.
Means you can tweak the acoustic curve of any headphone or earphone to be exactly the way you want the sound.
Cured the woeful lack of bass on a pair of Etymotic ER6i’s I’d stopped wearing, and knowing this, I bought a pair of Solo HD’s from eBay, saved £100, and with the acoustics altered, they sound superb.
I really like the very clean, uncluttered, Apple-like design, and they fold up small, have a replaceable cable, and they’re damned comfy after several hours of wear.
If Apple sorts the sound quality for people who don’t live in the World Of Doof ™ © ®, then they’ve got a winner.
I also use UE TripleFi 10 Pro IEM’s, so I know exactly what a good ‘phone sounds like; Beats ‘phones don’t need much doing to them to match up to the best sound-wise.

    2. Why the hell is Apple selling Beats Audio headphones? A well established brand. It confuses the hell out of me. I still cannot for the life of me understand why they spent billions of dollars to buy Beats. Especially, as a lot of you say, the headphones are overpriced crap!

And I’m not buying that Apple bought Beats because they want to get content deals and refresh iTunes so they need the talent.

But if that actually rings true, it tells me the management at Apple can’t “manage” the business anymore and they’re looking outside the company for help.

Either way, it’s alarming. This is a loss of focus from what I can see.

    1. Ivid (anonymous coward), if you directed your FUD at the original Apple earbuds, I’d have heartily agreed! But you didn’t, which leaves the world with the impression that you’re just another asinine troller. Have a bad day.

  1. Don’t agree with the MDN take. It says, “a unique blend of science and artistry.” Now if it just said that they sound great I would agree, but it’s the artistry that makes them sound good to the masses.

        1. I tend to share your misgivings. Apple increasingly seems like a mega-corporation giving lip service to its idealistic origins whilst making crass deals on the sidelines, multiplying its reach without regard to its unique existential identity in a world of indistinguishable tech firms.

  2. MEANWHILE, Dr Dre has apparently been very naughty again:

Apple & Beats use Siri and Pills to promote Dr. Dre’s celebratory party in new video ad

The end of the video also appears to poke fun at Siri not always working properly.

The ‘ad’ has since been taken down. The statement at YouTube reads:

This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Beats By Dre

I get the impression that this was NOT an ‘Apple’ ad at all, but yet another unprofessional and juvenile expression of Dr Dre, indicative of his future behavior within Apple. I am going to guess that Apple had to clean up the mess, also yet again. But what do I know? 😯
