“2009 was the last time the Apple faithful were treated to a new product category launch,” E. Werner Reschke writes for TGAAP. “The iPad made its debut just three years after the incredibly successful iPhone introduction. Nearly five years has passed since the iPad was announced, yet Apple has produced nothing ‘new.'”
MacDailyNews Note: The iPad was announced on January 27, 2010, by Steve Jobs at an Apple press conference held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.
“This Fall presents Apple another opportunity to break the cycle of just another set of upgrades to current product categories,” Reschke writes. “The iPhone 6 (aka iPhone Air) is most likely going to sport a larger display (or displays), but it may be a new product that steals the show.”
“Under Tim Cook’s leadership, there have been two special events in the Fall. A September show (2012, 2013) and an October show (2012, 2013). October is a special month for Apple as it is the beginning of its fiscal calendar,” Reschke writes. “Expect to see at least one of the two most highly rumored new product categories make center stage this Fall. Either the iWatch and/or the all-in-one Apple TV will be announced.”

iWatch is the ticket. Apple won’t get into another new category of product for at least a year after iWatch ships.
More like 5 years
The thing that amazes me is that it appears that so many people are bitching about Apple not having big screen iPhones. and now as that appears to be happening this fall, they don’t seem to mind that the so called iWatch will have a miniscule screen. Seem kinda ironic, can’t live without a huge screen, but can live with a tiny one. People are strange.
I remember when it was amazing how small cellphones were getting.
I don’t want a phablet!!!
A) I mostly use my iPhone with ONE hand
B) I don’t want to buy a whole new wardrobe so my phablet can fit in my jeans
C) I have an iPad mini
D) I don’t want to look like a awkward dork holding it
Get a 6c
You could have saved your money on the mini with a slightly bigger phone. I see no use for ipad large or mini. Waste of money
It’s called social engineering. Think about a Jewish person driving a German made car and Americans driving Japanese made cars etc…
“Seem kinda ironic, can’t live without a huge screen, but can live with a tiny one. “
It’s more that we’d like to live with both.
When iPhone lunched all the critics said it was ludicrously big, that everyone wanted small compact phones. Laughable now.
Perfect Storm. Planets are in alignment.
The Mac mini and iPod Touch lines are long overdue a refresh.
“Aka iPhone Air”
Eh? On which planet, first I’ve heard of it.
I keep wondering why it would be called an “air”. Seems disingenuous given why the others were called “Air”.
If true, then this will be the beginning of the end of their 7 year up cycle. Tech companies always fall victim to their ambitions to load up the market with new gadgets in a rush and then die a slow death as they are unable to maintain new product launches to fend off the markets “What have you done for me lately” attitude. Cook will cook Apply Inc. He is starting to behave like Balmer.
Die a slow death, seriously, go ahead.
Horrible article, full of half truths or incorrect info. iPhone Air? Seriously?
Analysts and jouranalists shovels and manure could be greater than ever before.
While analysts and journanalists usually results from severe beatings, substance abuse and years of pre chewed sterile television torture (according to one source that doesn’t have to be revealed because that would demonstrate actual research as opposed to making this stuff up) recent studies have demonstrated that under controlled conditions they will actually breed. This most certainly will create a population explosion in the wild and could result in totally ridiculous spin offs.
Next up: How much beer does it take for a woman to breed with an analyst? An in depth look cumming up soon.
The iPod Touch should be called the iPad mini.
Just saying. Most people think it’s only for music.
I mean iPad nano
